PMS 685 C is part of the Pantone PMS System, widely used in brand, marketing, and display environments for color standards. This color is soft, understated, muted, and subtly warm, with a clean and delicate appearance. PMS 685 C often functions as a supportive or secondary shade in identity systems, providing visual calm and a sense of openness without strong saturation.

PMS 685 C appears light in value, with a luminance that provides moderate visibility without being vivid. The color has a subtle warm tendency, leaning toward a delicate pink with gentle red undertones. PMS 685 C is low to moderate in saturation, resulting in a muted, pastel-like effect rather than bright coloration. The undertone is soft and gentle, without pronounced blue or yellow influence. This color can be sensitive to finish and lighting conditions, with matte finishes emphasizing its muted quality; higher sheens may introduce faint perceptual brightness.

PMS 685 C works well in settings where a brand needs a light, approachable pink that remains subdued rather than attention seeking. It is suited for backgrounds, accents, or supportive brand elements where visual comfort is a priority. It may appear lighter or slightly cooler under daylight-balanced lighting, and warmer in incandescent environments. Care should be taken to sample the finish and lighting context, as color uniformity and coverage can require additional attention—especially when used on absorbing or highly textured substrates.

Similar colors:
PMS 691 C: Lighter and less saturated, offering a paler, more neutral pink appearance.

PMS 698 C: Slightly cooler and lighter, with less visible warmth in the pink hue.

PMS 706 C: More chromatic and vibrant, presenting a stronger pink definition than PMS 685 C.

PMS 677 C: A shade darker, with a slightly higher saturation and visual weight.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 685 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
