PMS 269 U is a Pantone PMS color defined within the Pantone Matching System and commonly specified for brand-driven visual work. It presents as a deep purple with a cool, restrained character, conveying richness, gravity, and controlled intensity rather than brightness.

The color appears very dark, with a low Light Reflectance Value of 3.52, and it leans cool with a violet-to-purple hue impression. It remains moderately to strongly saturated, with a subtle blue-violet undertone that helps it read as purple rather than near-black.

PMS 269 U works well when a brand requires a dark purple that reads as intentional and saturated rather than gray or black. Its low lightness makes surface preparation and consistent application important, and lighting conditions can strongly influence how much color is perceived.

Similar colors:
PMS 268 U: slightly lighter and more open, with less visual depth.
PMS 2695 U: darker and more neutral, with reduced purple clarity.
PMS 2627 U: more chromatic and slightly warmer, with stronger violet intensity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 269 U

Does PMS 269 U require extra coats to achieve full coverage?

PMS 269 U is a deep, saturated Pantone color. Colors in this range often have lower hide than lighter or more neutral hues. Depending on the substrate and paint type, PMS 269 U may require additional coats or a suitable base coat to achieve even, uniform coverage.

For brand-facing work, plan to test coverage on your actual material so you can confirm how many coats are needed to reach the desired appearance.

How do I choose the right paint type for PMS 269 U?

PMS 269 U is a color reference, not a paint specification. The correct paint type depends on your substrate, environment, and finish goals. Spray paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, epoxy, urethane, or interior or exterior housepaint may all be appropriate depending on the application.

If you are unsure, contact MyPerfectColor with details about the surface, exposure conditions, and desired sheen. This helps ensure PMS 269 U is produced in a format that meets your project requirements.

Will PMS 269 U paint match my Pantone book exactly?

Pantone books are printed reference standards, while paint is applied to real substrates with specific sheens. PMS 269 U paint may not look identical to the swatch in your Pantone book due to differences in material, texture, and gloss level.

For critical brand approvals, always evaluate a physical paint sample on your actual substrate under expected lighting conditions rather than relying only on a book comparison.

What is the typical lead time for paint matched to PMS 269 U?

Paint matched to PMS 269 U is made to order. Production lead time can vary based on the selected paint type, quantity, and current production volume.

If your project has a fixed schedule, contact MyPerfectColor before ordering to confirm current lead times and plan accordingly.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 269 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 269 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 269 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
