Color summary

PMS 2627 U is a Pantone PMS color specified for consistent visual matching across brand-facing applications. It conveys a deep, intense, controlled, bold, and moody impression with a distinctly cool purple character.

Color characteristics

The color appears very dark, with an LRV of 2.3. It reads as cool and blue-leaning within the purple range and maintains high saturation despite its low lightness.

A subtle blue undertone distinguishes it from warmer violets, giving it a more restrained and deliberate appearance.

Practical application

PMS 2627 U performs best in environments where lighting and surface preparation are carefully managed. Its depth and saturation mean it may require priming and multiple thin coats to achieve even coverage, particularly over lighter or inconsistent substrates.

Similar colors:
PMS 2627 C: slightly cleaner and crisper in appearance, with a marginally brighter visual impression.
PMS 2685 U: darker and more neutral, with reduced chromatic intensity.
PMS 2613 U: lighter and slightly warmer, with more visible red-violet influence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2627 U

How should I compare PMS 2627 U paint to my Pantone book?

PMS 2627 U is a Pantone reference color, not a paint formula. Your Pantone book shows the target color on paper under specific conditions. When mixed as paint, PMS 2627 U can look different due to sheen, substrate, film thickness, and lighting.

For approval-critical work, evaluate a sample of PMS 2627 U paint on the actual material and under the installed lighting. Expect small visual differences versus the book, especially with saturated colors and darker tones.

Is PMS 2627 U appropriate when I need to match an existing painted surface exactly?

If you need a repair-grade result that blends into an existing painted surface, a Pantone code like PMS 2627 U is not the right reference. Pantone is intended for brand color reproduction, not for matching aged coatings, varied substrates, or unknown finishes.

For exact blending, the correct path is to send a physical sample of the painted part to be matched. Use PMS 2627 U when visual alignment to a brand standard is the goal, such as displays, signage, or prototypes.

What should I plan for when applying PMS 2627 U over large areas?

PMS 2627 U is a deep, saturated color, which can require careful planning to maintain uniform appearance over large areas. Consistent application method, even film build, and proper flash time between coats are important.

On larger panels or installations, plan for multiple coats to achieve full hide and consistent saturation. Always test on the actual substrate to confirm coverage and appearance before committing to the full application.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 2627 U?

Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Can I use the Pantone PMS 2627 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 2627 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 2627 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
