PMS 7689 C, from the Pantone PMS collection, is a medium-dark blue characterized by a notably vivid and professional presence. The vibe of this color can be described as technical, assertive, clean, reliable, and high-contrast. It serves as a consistent reference for situations in which brand identity, display fabrication, or industrial design projects require standardized color fidelity across varied materials.

Pantone colors have specific attributes that inform their visual performance and application decisions:

  • PMS 7689 C appears moderately dark, with an LRV of 24.01 indicating lower light reflectance.
  • The color is cool-toned, located in the blue family with a hue angle situated near the blue-violet spectrum.
  • PMS 7689 C shows medium-high color saturation, lending it substantial visual impact without appearing overly electric.
  • The undertone is neutral-to-cool, with minimal green or red influence.
  • This color tends to be sensitive to differences in finish and will appear deeper and richer in gloss or satin, while matte finishes may reduce saturation.

PMS 7689 C works well for environments and displays where a distinct, recognizable blue is required for visual consistency with branding standards. It performs reliably under controlled lighting but may shift in appearance under warm or uneven illumination. Surface preparation is important to ensure uniformity, especially as lower LRV and high chroma can sometimes highlight substrate imperfections. Compared to similar blues, PMS 7689 C offers greater chroma and clarity, maintaining legibility and contrast in marketing and display contexts.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 7688 C – Slightly darker and deeper, providing a stronger, more pronounced blue.
  • PMS 7690 C – Cooler and a bit more subdued, appearing less saturated and slightly more towards blue-green.
  • PMS 301 C – Slightly darker and more neutral, with less vivid chroma.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7689 C

How do lighting and viewing conditions affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 7689 C?

The appearance of Pantone PMS 7689 C can change noticeably under different lighting conditions. This color, like all Pantone PMS colors, is referenced for visual consistency, but the perceived shade may shift in tone, brightness, or saturation depending on the type and quality of light present. For best results, always evaluate PMS 7689 C under the lighting where it will appear in your finished environment. Controlled, neutral lighting reduces the risk of unexpected shifts, while warm or uneven lighting may make the color look different than intended. This is especially important for branding, marketing, and display projects where accurate color representation is critical.

How much coverage should I expect from a spray can of Pantone PMS 7689 C, and how should I estimate quantity?

Coverage for a spray can of Pantone PMS 7689 C depends on surface texture, color, and application method. On a smooth, primed surface, a standard 11 ounce spray can typically covers about 15 to 20 square feet per coat. Highly saturated colors like PMS 7689 C may require two or more coats for full, uniform coverage, especially over contrasting backgrounds. For best results, estimate the total square footage to be painted, multiply by the number of coats needed, and divide by the spray can coverage rate. Always allow for extra material to account for overspray and touch-through testing on your specific substrates.

Why is licensed reproduction important for Pantone PMS 7689 C paint?

Pantone PMS 7689 C is a standardized color used for brand consistency across materials and vendors. Only licensed and authorized reproduction ensures that the color target for PMS 7689 C is matched using Pantone's reference standards, reducing risk of color variation in marketing or brand applications. MyPerfectColor is authorized to reproduce PMS 7689 C in paint formats, which means you are getting a result aligned with the Pantone system rather than an unverified approximation.

What should I consider when using Pantone PMS 7689 C matched paint on plastics or low-energy surfaces?

Painting plastics or low-surface-energy materials with Pantone PMS 7689 C matched paint requires careful preparation. Plastics can vary greatly in how well paint adheres, so using the correct primer or surface treatment is essential for consistent results and color performance. It is strongly recommended to test the paint on a sample of your actual plastic material before full production. This helps confirm adhesion and verifies that PMS 7689 C appears as expected on your chosen substrate.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 7689 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
