PMS 7690 C (Pantone Matching System) is a noticeably deep blue from the Pantone PMS collection. It presents as strong, technical, and professional, with a vivid chromaticity that leans cool. The color is described operationally as assertive, modern, and distinctly saturated, making it functionally effective for brand signaling or display components where exact color consistency is critical.

PMS 7690 C appears distinctly dark with a low light reflectance value (LRV: 15.78). The color exhibits a cool visual tendency, situating it clearly within the blue family. The color maintains a strong, saturated presence without shifting towards gray or muted tones. This color commonly presents a subtle blue-violet undertone, especially under neutral or cool white lighting. PMS 7690 C is moderately sensitive to finish; gloss levels can significantly affect perceived depth and intensity.

PMS 7690 C is operationally effective for projects requiring a resilient, saturated blue that maintains its identity across large-scale displays, branded installations, and prototypes. Users should evaluate the color sample under intended lighting and finish, as both factors can alter the visible undertone and chroma. Compared to similar blues, PMS 7690 C remains more vivid and saturated rather than shifting toward muted or grayish tones, but darker substrates may require additional coats for full, uniform coverage.

Similar colors:
PMS 7687 C – Slightly darker and deeper, producing a more intense, somber blue presence.

PMS 7691 C – Similar chroma but with a touch more green, resulting in a cooler, somewhat teal-leaning blue.

PMS 2145 C – Noticeably lighter and less saturated, providing a softer blue but with less visual prominence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7690 C

How should I use PMS 7690 C for prototyping or concept models to ensure brand visual alignment?

When using PMS 7690 C for prototypes or concept models, select a paint format that matches the intended application and substrate, such as spray paint for even coverage or brush-in-cap bottles for detailed work. To ensure brand visual alignment, evaluate painted samples under the lighting and finish expected in the final setting. Because PMS 7690 C is a saturated blue, its appearance may change depending on gloss level and lighting. Test coverage on your actual substrate, especially for darker materials, as several coats may be needed to achieve full color density. Confirm that the visual result aligns with your brand standards before proceeding to final builds.

What is the best way to sample PMS 7690 C for brand approval workflows?

For brand approval workflows, order a small sample of PMS 7690 C in the specific paint format and sheen you plan to use on your finished project. Apply the sample to the actual substrate you intend to use and view it under the installed lighting conditions. This helps you accurately assess color alignment since finish, surface type, and lighting can all affect how PMS 7690 C is perceived. Securing signoff on this tested sample minimizes risks and ensures consistency before moving forward with large quantities or production runs.

What should I expect when reordering PMS 7690 C paint for consistent results over multiple batches?

When reordering PMS 7690 C, use the same paint type, sheen, and application method as your approved sample to maintain consistency. Even with standardized Pantone codes, small differences can occur between paint batches due to variations in materials and production processes. Always use a retained standard or a signed-off panel from your last order as a reference for future runs. Evaluating new batches under the same lighting and on the same substrate will help ensure the visual result remains aligned with your brand requirements.

Where can I find the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for PMS 7690 C paint?

The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for PMS 7690 C is determined by the paint product type, not the Pantone color code itself. To find the correct SDS, select the specific paint format you plan to order, such as spray paint or acrylic, and look up the SDS for that product in the SDS library or resources provided by MyPerfectColor. If you need assistance, contact customer support with your product selection, and they can provide the relevant SDS documentation.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 7690 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
