PMS 7679 C is part of the Pantone PMS collection, used globally for standardized color communication in branding, display fabrication, and industrial design. This color presents an intense, cool-leaning violet character, projecting a technical, formal, and contemporary vibe. It is visually prominent, bold, and distinctly chromatic, typically chosen for situations demanding consistent brand representation and high visibility across materials.

PMS 7679 C appears dark in value, indicating low light reflectance, with an LRV of 6.93.

The color exhibits a cool overall tendency, with a pronounced blue-violet hue.

PMS 7679 C presents high saturation, resulting in a vivid, strong color impression.

The undertone is clearly blue-based, avoiding warmth or red bias.

The color’s appearance is sensitive to finish; gloss levels can affect how deep or vivid the violet appears.

PMS 7679 C is effective in environments requiring visual impact and precise color consistency, such as branded displays, point-of-purchase fixtures, or concept prototypes where a strong, unmistakable violet is needed. Evaluate the color under intended lighting and on the actual substrate, as its deep and highly chromatic nature may shift in appearance based on gloss and surface texture. Compared to similar dark violets, PMS 7679 C will generally deliver a cooler, stronger and more saturated impression, but may require careful attention to coverage and uniformity, especially on light or high-contrast backgrounds.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 7678 C: Slightly lighter and somewhat less chromatic, resulting in a softer violet appearance.
  • PMS 7677 C: Darker and more muted, with a more subdued and less vibrant impression.
  • PMS 268 C: More saturated and deeper, tending toward a pure blue-violet with increased visual intensity.
  • PMS 2685 C: Cooler and comparatively brighter, yielding a somewhat higher visual pop in similar applications.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7679 C

How does the finish or sheen affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 7679 C paint?

The appearance of Pantone PMS 7679 C can change noticeably depending on the finish you select. A glossy version of PMS 7679 C will often look deeper and more vivid, while a matte or flat finish can make the violet seem darker or less saturated. If you compare a gloss sample to a matte one, it may look like a different color due to differences in light reflectance and surface texture. For accurate approval or matching, always compare the same sheen on the same substrate under similar lighting conditions.

What should I know before applying Pantone PMS 7679 C paint to plastics or low-energy surfaces?

When painting plastics or low-energy substrates with Pantone PMS 7679 C, be aware that adhesion can vary widely based on the material. Many plastics require specific primers or surface treatments to ensure the paint bonds properly. It is strongly recommended to test PMS 7679 C on the actual plastic surface before full production. This can help you confirm adhesion, coverage, and appearance, reducing risk of product failure or off-target color results.

What are the best practices for comparing Pantone PMS 7679 C color samples during approval?

For accurate approval of Pantone PMS 7679 C, compare samples under consistent lighting conditions using the same type of substrate and surface finish intended for the final use. Allow paint samples to fully dry and cure before final judgment, as the color can shift during the curing process. Taking these steps will give you a more reliable evaluation of PMS 7679 C and help you avoid surprises during brand deployment.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 7679 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
