PMS 268 C is part of the Pantone PMS system, a widely recognized specification collection for branding, marketing, and industrial design. The color is visually deep, concentrated, and assertive, with a very low LRV (3.8) indicating a distinctly dark presence. The vibe is bold, technical, statement-making, and highly visible, especially under direct lighting or when used as a feature color in brand-driven environments.

PMS 268 C appears as a distinctly dark color, as indicated by its low LRV. The color presents a cool tendency, with purple as the primary impression. PMS 268 C is highly saturated, delivering strong chroma and vividness. The undertone is blue-violet, contributing to a pronounced coolness and depth. This color’s appearance can shift based on finish; glossier sheens may increase perceived intensity and depth, while matte finishes may cause it to appear slightly more muted.

PMS 268 C is specified when a strong, recognizable purple is required for brand identities, displays, or environmental graphics. The dark tone means it performs best on clean, primed surfaces and may require multiple coats for uniform coverage, especially over lighter substrates. Lighting conditions and finish choice can notably alter visual impact; evaluate samples in the intended context. Relative to other dark purples, PMS 268 C will appear cooler and more saturated, standing out with greater chromatic strength and less mutedness.

Similar colors:
PMS 267 C: Slightly darker and more blue-toned, giving a cooler overall appearance.

PMS 2623 C: Warmer, with more red undertone and less chroma.

PMS 2607 C: Lighter and less saturated, appearing softer and less intense.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 268 C

How can I be sure that PMS 268 C is the correct Pantone reference for my project?

PMS 268 C is a specific code in the Pantone Matching System. Always confirm the full code, including any suffixes like 'C', 'U', or 'M', by checking your brand guidelines or project documentation. Suffixes refer to different material or finish contexts and can impact how the color should look. When precision matters for brand or client work, reference the exact code used in your official standards to avoid mismatches.

When is it appropriate to order a standard Pantone PMS 268 C color match?

Ordering a standard PMS 268 C match is appropriate for projects such as signage, display components, branded exhibits, marketing installations, or prototypes where visual alignment with the Pantone reference is the goal. If your specifications require the look of PMS 268 C in branded, customer-facing, or marketing-driven applications, a standard match delivers the intended color target. For permanent or critical installations, validating through samples can further support decision-making.

Will PMS 268 C look different if I choose a matte versus a gloss finish?

Yes, the appearance of PMS 268 C can change noticeably with different finishes. A gloss finish will make the color appear deeper and more saturated, while a matte finish can cause PMS 268 C to look slightly lighter and less intense. For best results, evaluate finish choices in the context and lighting of your intended display, as these factors affect perceived color accuracy and brand impact.

How do I choose the right type of paint for PMS 268 C on interior or exterior projects?

For PMS 268 C, select interior paint for applications inside or outside of direct weather exposure, like trade show displays or indoor branding elements. Use exterior paint for situations where the color will face sun, rain, or environmental wear, such as outdoor signage or building features. Matching both finish and type to your use case ensures PMS 268 C performs and looks right over time in your application.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 268 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 268 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 268 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 268 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 268 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
