PMS 2685 C

A strong, saturated purple-blue widely specified for brand assets requiring bold visibility and consistent color reproduction.

PMS 2685 C, from the Pantone PMS system, is notable for its deep, vibrant character and pronounced blue-violet hue. The color carries a distinctly modern, assertive, and vivid appearance, with visual descriptors including saturated, cool, impactful, technical, and memorable. Commonly referenced in branding and marketing environments, its use often emphasizes clarity and brand distinction.

- PMS 2685 C appears very deep and dark, supported by a low LRV of 1.73, meaning it reflects minimal visible light. - The color reads cool, with a pronounced blue-violet orientation along the hue continuum. - PMS 2685 C exhibits high chroma, resulting in strong color saturation and visual intensity. - The undertone is chiefly blue, with subordinate red undertones that anchor its identity within the violet range. - This color is sensitive to finish; high-gloss or matte applications can influence its perception, affecting apparent depth and vividness.

PMS 2685 C is most effective where powerful, brand-centric visual presence is required—especially for environments, displays, or products seeking strong recognition and differentiation. Surface preparation is key for optimal color uniformity, as the boldness of this shade may highlight imperfections. Highly saturated, low-luminance purples such as PMS 2685 C may show greater shifts depending on lighting conditions, and finish selection can significantly change its apparent intensity. Relative to other deep violets or purples, PMS 2685 C reads cooler and more vibrant, avoiding muddiness but demanding attention to accurate substrate and finish match for color fidelity.

Similar colors:
PMS 266 C: Similar in family but lighter and less saturated, appearing softer and less intense on large surfaces.

PMS 2755 C: Darker and less chromatic, reading as a more muted or subtle blue-violet option suitable for conservative applications.

PMS 286 C: Markedly bluer and brighter, providing stronger cool-toned vibrancy with less purple depth.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2685 C

Will PMS 2685 C appear the same in matte and gloss finishes?

PMS 2685 C may look noticeably different in gloss versus matte finishes, even though the color target is the same. Higher gloss can make the color seem brighter and more saturated, while matte surfaces often appear deeper or more muted. When matching or reviewing PMS 2685 C across samples, always compare the same sheen to accurately assess color consistency. Mixing finishes may cause the result to look like a different shade.

How do I use PMS 2685 C for prototyping or concept models that require Pantone alignment?

PMS 2685 C is well suited for prototyping or concept models where visual brand accuracy is critical. Choose the paint format that matches your model material and review under lighting similar to the final display environment. This helps ensure the prototype reflects the intended Pantone color and finish, allowing for confident evaluation and brand presentation.

When is it appropriate to order a standard Pantone PMS match for PMS 2685 C?

Ordering a standard Pantone PMS match for PMS 2685 C is appropriate for most marketing, brand signage, displays, exhibits, and prototypes where the Pantone reference is the correct target. This approach is ideal when visual alignment and brand consistency are the priorities, rather than substrate-specific matching or complex approval workflows.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2685 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
