PMS 7463 C is a standard in the Pantone Matching System collection, recognized for its serious, authoritative appearance. The color comes across as dark, corporate, clean, and distinctly cool-toned. Its controlled chroma and very low perceived lightness contribute to a sense of formality and technical precision, making it well-suited for applications demanding strong, consistent brand alignment.

PMS 7463 C appears distinctly dark, with an LRV of 2.52 indicating very low brightness. The color exhibits a cool bias, with blue as the dominant hue. PMS 7463 C shows moderate saturation, with chroma restrained compared to more vivid blues. The undertone leans toward blue with a subtle inky depth, free from obvious violet or green influence. This color is sensitive to finish; glossier finishes can intensify its depth, while matte finishes may slightly mute its richness.

PMS 7463 C works effectively as a brand or accent color in environments where a deep, stable blue contributes to visual consistency and presence. For accurate results, it is important to evaluate the color in the substrate’s intended lighting conditions, as both low and artificial light can make it appear almost black. Given its darkness, this color may require additional coats to achieve full opacity on lighter surfaces, especially in less opaque finishes. Compared to similar deep blues, PMS 7463 C typically maintains a cooler, more neutral balance, and less risk of drifting toward purple or gray when applied properly.

Similar colors:
PMS 296 C: Slightly darker with a more blackened undertone, appearing even more muted and less saturated.

PMS 282 C: Warmer and less saturated, with a noticeable navy character and traditional use in collegiate branding.

PMS 2767 C: Shows a more pronounced violet undertone, making it cooler and subtly more purple in appearance.

PMS 654 C: Slightly lighter and more chromatic, presenting a clearer blue without as much depth.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7463 C

How do I confirm I am ordering the right version of Pantone PMS 7463 C for my project?

Before placing an order for PMS 7463 C, double-check the full Pantone code required by your brand standards or project documentation. Pantone PMS codes sometimes include suffixes such as C, U, or M, which refer to the original color standard and can affect how the color appears on different materials. Confirming the full code ensures your results align with the intended brand reference and avoids mismatches across substrates and applications.

What are the typical production lead times for Pantone PMS 7463 C paint?

Pantone PMS 7463 C paint is made to order to ensure accurate brand color targeting. Production lead times depend on the type of paint format selected and current production volume. Most orders ship within a few business days, but larger or specialized orders, such as epoxy or custom finishes, may require more processing time. For tight timelines or specific delivery needs, contact MyPerfectColor before ordering to clarify projected lead times.

How will the finish or sheen affect how Pantone PMS 7463 C appears in my application?

The finish you choose for PMS 7463 C can significantly influence how the color is perceived. Glossier finishes tend to intensify the depth and richness of this cool, dark blue, making it appear more saturated and deeper in color. Matte or flat finishes may mute its visual impact, introduce surface texture, or cause the color to appear slightly lighter. Always evaluate samples in the lighting and environment where the finished product will be seen to confirm that the chosen sheen meets your visual and brand requirements.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 7463 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
