PMS 690 C is included in the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection. The color is characterized by a dark value and muted, dusty appearance with a cool rose undertone. It presents an understated, technical, grounded, and mature vibe that supports brand and display scenarios requiring subdued color impact.

- PMS 690 C presents as a dark shade, with a low measured reflectance (LRV 5.09). - The color has a cool pink tendency, influenced by its hue angle in the red-violet range. - The saturation level is low to moderate, giving it a muted rather than vivid presence. - This color displays a soft rose undertone with a slight gray cast. - The appearance can be affected by surface finish, with gloss levels increasing the perceived depth and richness.

PMS 690 C is suited for branded paint applications requiring a restrained dark rose tone that avoids strong saturation. It performs well on display elements, signage, and fabricated features needing precise brand alignment but minimal visual competition with more dominant colors. Low-light colors like this are especially sensitive to both finish (glossier finishes appear richer) and lighting (warm light can make it appear browner; cool light can enhance the rose aspect). Coverage may benefit from undercoating, as muted reds can be less opaque than neutrals or earth tones of similar darkness.

Similar colors:
PMS 691 C: Slightly lighter and less muted; presents a more apparent pinkness.

PMS 4985 C: Darker and browner; offers a warmer, earthier appearance.

PMS 499 C: More chromatic and warmer, with a stronger red-brown influence.

PMS 4995 C: Marginally lighter and cooler, with a more subdued rose-gray note.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 690 C

Are there notable brand or institutional uses of Pantone PMS 690 C for marketing or display?

Pantone PMS 690 C is not widely documented in public brand standards for major global organizations. It is mainly chosen for projects needing a dark, muted rose with an understated presence, providing subtle branded accents in display, exhibit, or signage environments where a less saturated color is preferred. For critical brand applications, always confirm the official color reference required in your specifications before ordering.

What should I do to achieve uniform coverage when applying Pantone PMS 690 C over large display areas?

PMS 690 C is a dark, muted rose that can show variations if coverage is inconsistent, especially over large surfaces. Use a uniform application technique, such as maintaining a consistent spray distance and overlap if using spray paint, or backrolling if brushing or rolling. Plan for multiple coats if the underlying surface has high contrast or if coverage is uneven. Indoors, review under typical lighting to check for patchiness. An appropriate primer or tinted base coat can improve coverage and appearance with muted reds like PMS 690 C.

How does finish or sheen choice affect the look of Pantone PMS 690 C in branded applications?

The appearance of PMS 690 C can shift notably with gloss, satin, or matte finishes. Gloss or semi-gloss finishes increase perceived depth and make the rose aspect richer, while matte finishes produce a softer, more muted look. Because PMS 690 C is a low-light, muted color, its darkness and undertone may look different depending on the sheen and ambient lighting. Always confirm the required finish with brand guidelines to maintain the desired visual effect in your display or marketing application.

When is a primer recommended before applying Pantone PMS 690 C paint to display substrates?

A primer is recommended for PMS 690 C when painting over bare or porous materials, high-contrast surfaces, or where maximum adhesion and evenness are required. This is especially important for dark, muted reds, which may be less opaque and require more coverage to achieve uniform color. Consult your substrate and paint type for primer compatibility. Using a suitable primer can improve coverage, reduce visible patchiness, and help achieve accurate brand color on display components.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 690 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 690 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 690 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
