PMS 4995 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (PMS), a widely utilized standard in branding and design applications. Visually, this color presents as an understated, earthy, and professional reddish-brown. Its overall vibe is muted, restrained, grounded, and warm, making it suitable for identity systems that require a less saturated but distinct brown tone. This color's low reflectance and subtle chromatic presence help it function as a strong background or supporting brand color in display fabrication, marketing, and industrial design settings.

PMS 4995 C has a low Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of 19.27, making it a distinctly dark shade.

The color appears warm, with a clear reddish-brown undertone.

PMS 4995 C exhibits low to moderate saturation, appearing muted rather than vivid.

The undertone is earthy and subdued, preventing it from reading as aggressively red or orange.

The color shows some sensitivity to finish; higher-gloss or satin finishes may slightly intensify its warmth and visibility, while matte finishes reinforce its muted quality.

PMS 4995 C works well in brand or marketing projects requiring an earthy, subtle shade that avoids the starkness of pure black or the intensity of highly chromatic reds and browns. It is especially effective as a supportive or background brand color on signage, displays, and branded environments, where understated professionalism is desired. When specifying this color, test it in the target finish and under the actual lighting conditions, as its muted quality may become more pronounced or recede depending on gloss and illumination. Expect more visible color shifts compared to brighter or more neutral browns, especially when transitioning between matte and glossy sheens.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 4975 C: Darker and more neutral, with less visible red undertone.
  • PMS 4985 C: Slightly warmer and lighter, bringing more pronounced reddish notes.
  • PMS 4625 C: Subtly darker and with a deeper, more chocolate-brown quality.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 4995 C

What should I expect regarding the durability of PMS 4995 C when using Pantone matched spray paint for displays or brand environments?

The durability of PMS 4995 C spray paint depends on preparation of the substrate, the environment it will be exposed to, and whether an appropriate clear topcoat is applied. For brand displays and marketing environments, good surface prep and a protective clearcoat are strongly recommended, especially for high-traffic or outdoor areas. Choose the spray paint formulation based on your project's exposure needs. While PMS 4995 C can be matched accurately for visual brand alignment, be aware that color and finish appearance may shift over time if surfaces are not properly protected.

How can I maintain a uniform appearance when applying PMS 4995 C over a large area?

PMS 4995 C is a muted, dark reddish-brown that requires even coverage for accurate brand presentation, especially across large panels or displays. For the most consistent results, plan your application in advance: use consistent spray technique, overlap passes slightly, and maintain a wet edge. Apply multiple light coats instead of one heavy coat to avoid patchiness and streaks. Ambient lighting and substrate color can affect uniformity, so choose a primer or basecoat that is neutral and test a sample area before finishing the full project.

Is PMS 4995 C suitable for use on prototypes and concept models to represent brand colors?

PMS 4995 C is often selected for prototypes and concept models when visual alignment with brand standards is required. To support accurate evaluation, choose the paint format that fits your model's material and finish needs, such as spray paint for broad coverage or paint pens for details. Evaluate the color under the lighting and finish conditions the final product will have, as PMS 4995 C can shift slightly between matte and glossy sheens. This approach helps ensure stakeholders see the color as intended for the actual brand environment.

What product formats are available for ordering PMS 4995 C for my brand project?

PMS 4995 C can be ordered in several formats to support brand and display projects, including custom spray paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, and select coating types such as epoxy or urethane. Choose the format that matches your application process and the surface material. For most signage, displays, and prototypes, spray paint is common, while paint pens and brush-in-cap bottles are useful for details or small surfaces. If your project has specific durability or finish requirements, consider requesting a sample first to confirm color appearance and performance.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 4995 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
