PMS 5655 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) color, widely used in print, branded environments, and painted displays where accurate identity color matching is needed. The color blends soft, technical, and understated qualities with a sense of calm and approachability. It presents a muted and low-chroma green with a distinctly cool cast, making it suitable for professional applications where a subtle, sophisticated color effect is desired.

PMS 5655 C appears light to mid-light in value, with a moderate light reflectance (LRV 54.93). The color has a cool tendency, reflecting its placement in the green spectrum with blue undertones. It shows low to moderate saturation, resulting in a muted, quiet appearance rather than vivid or intense coloration. The undertone is a subdued blue-green, giving the color an airy and soft quality. The color’s appearance may shift noticeably depending on lighting type, with cooler lighting accentuating its minty character and warmer lighting slightly neutralizing it. Finish sensitivity is moderate; glossier finishes will intensify the slight blue undertone, while matte finishes maintain its subtle, muted look.

PMS 5655 C works well for branded displays, signage, and prototype models where a quiet, distinctive identity green is needed. It is most effective in environments with stable, neutral-to-cool lighting, as its muted character can shift in warm lighting. The color is more understated compared to more chromatic or saturated brand greens, making it useful for applications needing a refined and modern appearance without visual aggressiveness. For paint applications, careful surface preparation and even application are recommended to avoid streaking, particularly in lower-gloss finishes. PMS 5655 C serves reliably as a brand color for organizations seeking a gentle but easily identifiable cool green.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 5655 C

How will Pantone PMS 5655 C paint compare to its appearance in my Pantone book?

Pantone books provide a reference standard for PMS 5655 C, but paint created to that match can appear different due to sheen, substrate, and lighting. The ink on a Pantone book is typically semi-gloss on white paper, while painted finishes can be matte, satin, or glossy, and may be applied to various materials. These differences may result in variations in brightness, saturation, or undertone. For best results, sample PMS 5655 C paint on the actual material and finish you plan to use, and view it under your intended lighting before starting full production or installation.

When is it appropriate to order PMS 5655 C as a standard Pantone match?

Ordering PMS 5655 C as a standard match is appropriate for marketing uses such as branded displays, signage, prototypes, and any situation where the Pantone PMS 5655 C color reference is the designated brand target. This approach is suited for projects where creating a visually consistent brand experience is the main goal and the Pantone standard is your client's or brand's official requirement. It is best used when you need to visually align with published Pantone materials rather than matching an existing painted or manufactured sample.

How does PMS 5655 C help create a consistent brand experience?

PMS 5655 C is a specific Pantone color selected to ensure brands are represented consistently across marketing, displays, exhibits, and environments. By specifying PMS 5655 C for your paint or display projects, you help achieve the intended visual identity regardless of vendor or production batch. Using the defined Pantone color supports brand recognition, aids approval processes, and ensures that every touchpoint delivers the same look and feel as outlined in brand standards.

What surface preparation steps are recommended before applying PMS 5655 C paint?

Proper surface preparation is key to a visually accurate result with PMS 5655 C paint. Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free of oils or dust. Degrease smooth or glossy areas, lightly scuff as needed to promote adhesion, and remove any loose material. It is always recommended to test-spot a small area before full application, especially when appearance is critical or application is on unfamiliar substrates. These steps help prevent streaking and improve color uniformity, especially for muted finishes.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 5655 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
