PMS 556 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) color known for its soft, bluish-green appearance. As part of the Pantone PMS System / collection, it is widely selected for marketing, industrial design, and branded environments that require a controlled, technical, and unobtrusive green. The vibe is subtle, grounded, low-key, and professional, offering a sense of calm and stability without appearing too bold or saturated.

PMS 556 C reads as a mid-tone green with cool undertones. The color has a moderate lightness, with an LRV of 31.59 indicating neither deep darkness nor brightness. This color tends toward a cool appearance, owing to its hue angle in the blue-green range. The saturation is moderate, providing color presence without intensity. The undertone is bluish, with a muted quality that prevents it from appearing vivid or overly chromatic. Finish selection can affect perceived depth; higher gloss may slightly enhance the bluish cast, while matte can further soften the impression.

PMS 556 C works well in applications where a muted but professionally distinctive green is needed—such as display backgrounds, environmental branding, or marketing supports requiring controlled visual impact. Expect this color to shift subtly under different lighting, especially with variable cool or warm illumination; always check a physical sample in final conditions. The color offers a more understated appearance compared to common, more saturated greens, making it suitable for palettes where supporting elements should not distract from primary brand colors or messaging.

Similar colors:
PMS 557 C: Similar but lighter and less muted, giving a softer appearance overall.

PMS 555 C: Related but darker and slightly more chromatic, creating a richer impression.

PMS 5517 C: Cooler and less saturated, appearing more blue-green and subdued.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 556 C

Why can I not directly cross-reference Pantone PMS 556 C to a paint color from another brand?

Pantone PMS 556 C is a specific, standardized color in the Pantone Matching System. Most paint brands create their own unique palettes that do not directly include Pantone colors. Because of differences in pigment systems, finishes, and target materials, there is no exact, guaranteed crossover from PMS 556 C to other paint company color codes. For true brand consistency, use a color matched specifically to Pantone PMS 556 C instead of relying on similar-looking alternatives from other brands.

How do I order paint matched to Pantone PMS 556 C on MyPerfectColor?

To order paint matched to Pantone PMS 556 C on MyPerfectColor, start by confirming the color code and name. Select your preferred paint type, such as spray paint or another available format, then choose the sheen and quantity you need. Carefully review your selections to ensure they meet your application and brand requirements before placing your order. Review any notes about substrate or application for best results, especially for branding, marketing, or display projects.

Why does it matter that Pantone PMS 556 C is reproduced under license on MyPerfectColor?

Pantone PMS 556 C is a licensed standard, meaning its color definition is controlled to ensure consistent reproduction across materials and suppliers. MyPerfectColor is authorized to match PMS 556 C, so you can trust your paint order targets the official reference for branding or marketing work. This is important because accurate brand color requires more than a visual approximation-licensed reproduction helps achieve reliable, consistent results in your projects.

What should I consider when applying Pantone PMS 556 C paint to plastics or low-surface-energy materials?

When painting plastics or low-surface-energy substrates with Pantone PMS 556 C, it is important to know that adhesion can vary widely based on the specific plastic type. Many plastics need a specialized primer for proper paint adhesion. MyPerfectColor recommends testing PMS 556 C on an actual sample of your plastic or surface before full production. This helps identify any adhesion or appearance issues and ensures your branded color will perform as needed in your application.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 556 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
