PMS 3005 C is a member of the Pantone Matching System (PMS), widely used in brand, display, and marketing contexts for color-consistent substrate coverage. The color presents as a saturated, medium-to-dark blue with a visible coolness and technical, contemporary, and energetic qualities, suited for environments demanding high-visibility and a modern look. Its LRV of 13.84 indicates a relatively low reflectance, reinforcing its depth and strength compared to lighter blues.

- PMS 3005 C appears as a medium-dark blue with noticeable depth. - This color shows a cool visual tendency, with no overt warmth. - PMS 3005 C demonstrates high chroma (saturation), reading as very vivid in most contexts. - The undertone is distinctively blue with no strong green or violet cast. - The color’s appearance can shift with finish; high-gloss sheens increase vibrancy, while matte finishes may reduce depth and perceived intensity.

PMS 3005 C is best used where color accuracy, presence, and brand alignment are critical, such as branded displays, marketing collateral, or exterior elements requiring lasting impression. It benefits from even lighting—both daylight and color-corrected artificial sources—and is sensitive to finish, where higher gloss enhances its saturated character. Surfaces should be uniformly primed to avoid coverage issues. Compared to similar saturated blues, PMS 3005 C reads as slightly deeper and purer without much influence from cyan or purple, helping avoid common visual drift among blue brand colors.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 3005 C

How do lighting and viewing conditions affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 3005 C?

The appearance of Pantone PMS 3005 C can shift depending on the lighting and viewing conditions. This blue may look deeper or brighter under daylight, while under typical indoor lighting or LED sources, it could appear less saturated or slightly altered. For brand consistency, always evaluate PMS 3005 C in the specific lighting where your project will be displayed. This helps ensure the color aligns with brand expectations and reduces surprises caused by metamerism.

What coverage should I expect per spray can of PMS 3005 C, and how do I estimate how many cans I need?

One standard spray can of Pantone PMS 3005 C typically covers about 20 to 25 square feet per coat on smooth, primed surfaces. Because PMS 3005 C is a saturated blue with relatively low reflectance, additional coats may be needed for true uniformity or over dark substrates. Textured, unprimed, or absorbent surfaces will lower actual coverage. For best results, estimate total project square footage, consider the number of required coats, and allow extra for surface type and complexity.

Why is Pantone PMS 3005 C not recommended as a touch-up color for existing coatings?

Pantone PMS 3005 C is a color standard, not a finish or material specification. Pantone codes do not define the original coatings'' sheen, texture, or application method, so using PMS 3005 C as a touch-up color on existing surfaces often leads to visible mismatches. For maintenance or repair, matching should be based on the actual finish and original process, not only on the Pantone reference.

What product formats are available for Pantone PMS 3005 C, and how do I choose the right one?

PMS 3005 C is available in a variety of formats tailored to brand and marketing uses. Options include custom spray paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, and select liquid coatings. Choose spray paint for displays and signage with wide coverage needs, paint pens or brush-in-cap bottles for fine detail or small components, and specialty liquids for specific substrate or finish needs. Selecting the format based on your application ensures both color accuracy and ease of use for your project.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 3005 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
