PMS 2627 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) color known for its intense, dark purple appearance. As part of the Pantone PMS collection, it is primarily specified for brand and identity use by professionals in fields such as marketing, industrial design, and display fabrication. The color communicates a technical, authoritative, and sophisticated vibe, appearing bold yet controlled. Its strong chromatic presence makes it visually assertive, while the dark tone provides a sense of seriousness and stability.

PMS 2627 C appears very dark with a low light reflectance value (LRV 2.3). The color demonstrates a cool undertone, positioned in the purple range with slight blue influence. PMS 2627 C is highly saturated, contributing to a vivid, saturated visual impact. The undertone is distinctly cool and bluish rather than warm or red-leaning. This color can appear richer or deeper depending on the chosen finish; gloss finishes may increase vibrancy while matte finishes will mute the effect.

PMS 2627 C works effectively when dramatic, memorable color is needed for brand standards, signage, or high-visibility display elements. In application, surface preparation is important for achieving uniformity in such a saturated, dark color—irregular priming or inconsistent film thickness can cause uneven appearance. Ensure that color is evaluated under the same lighting and finish conditions planned for the target environment, as deep purples can shift noticeably under varying light sources. Relative to other similarly dark purples, PMS 2627 C is notably cooler and more chromatic, making it less likely to appear muddy or muted.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2627 C

How difficult is it to achieve an accurate match for Pantone PMS 2627 C, and what do I need to consider before ordering?

Pantone PMS 2627 C is a very dark, highly saturated purple, which makes accurate matching more challenging across different materials and finishes. Factors such as paint type, application method, and lighting all influence the final appearance. MyPerfectColor uses the official Pantone standard as the match target, but it is important to confirm that your project can accept the variation that naturally occurs when translating a printed or coated reference to a painted surface. For critical use, always verify suitability using a sample painted in your actual lighting, finish, and on your intended substrate.

What should I know about painting metal or powder-coated surfaces with Pantone PMS 2627 C matched paint?

For best results when applying Pantone PMS 2627 C to metal or over existing powder coating, all surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned, lightly scuffed, and free from oils or residues to help the new coating bond evenly. Gloss level and existing base colors can affect how PMS 2627 C appears once applied. Highly saturated, dark colors like this require consistent preparation to avoid uneven color or shine. Always test a small area or a sample panel first to evaluate results under the lighting and conditions for your final installation.

Why do brand standards specify Pantone PMS 2627 C, and how does it help create a consistent brand experience?

Pantone PMS 2627 C is specified in brand guidelines to ensure a consistent, recognizable visual identity across all displays, signage, and environments. Using the PMS code means all suppliers and fabricators aim at the same color reference, which helps your brand look unified no matter the material or setting. Accurate matching to PMS 2627 C supports a strong and coherent brand experience in high-impact marketing and display contexts.

What tips can help me get a uniform finish when applying PMS 2627 C over a large area?

When using PMS 2627 C for large-area applications, consistent surface preparation and methodical application are key. Plan for full, even coats rather than patching or spot touch-ups. Highly saturated colors like PMS 2627 C may need multiple coats to achieve full coverage and avoid visible streaks or thin spots. Use the same product batch and application technique for the entire project, and evaluate color appearance under the installed lighting to confirm uniformity before project completion.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2627 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
