PMS 2622 C from the Pantone PMS system is a dark, muted purple with a cool character and a subdued but noticeable chromatic presence. This color is often selected where a restrained but clearly branded purple is required, balancing richness and subtlety for graphic or environmental use. The overall vibe is sophisticated, technical, muted, stable, and understated.

PMS 2622 C appears notably dark, with a low LRV of 4.1. The color shows a cool tendency, leaning toward the blue side of the purple spectrum. Saturation is moderate, providing clear color identity without excessive vibrancy. This color exhibits a soft, blue-violet undertone that remains present under most lighting. The appearance can shift subtly with finish; higher gloss may bring out depth and vibrancy, while matte finishes will emphasize its muted quality.

PMS 2622 C works well for applications where a strong but unobtrusive branded accent is needed, such as fabricated identity panels, retail environments, or tradeshow components. The depth of the color means it may require additional coats for uniform opacity, especially over lighter undercoats. Accent lighting or direct illumination can cool the appearance further, so evaluate in final conditions whenever possible. In environments where differentiation from more vivid or warmer purples is important, PMS 2622 C provides a more subdued alternative that avoids overt saturation.

Similar colors:
PMS 2623 C: Slightly lighter and more chromatic, with a brighter appearance in direct light.

PMS 2613 C: Darker and even more blue-shifted, with less of the muted character.

PMS 7672 C: Cooler and more overtly blue, lacking the muted purple quality of PMS 2622 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2622 C

What are the best practices for comparing PMS 2622 C color samples during the approval process?

For accurate comparison of PMS 2622 C samples, always view all samples under the same lighting conditions, ideally matching the final installation environment. Use identical substrates when possible, as color can shift across materials. Allow coatings to fully dry and cure before making any judgments, since color and finish can change during this time. This approach helps ensure approval decisions for PMS 2622 C support brand consistency and minimize unwanted variation between components.

How do undercoats and multiple coats affect PMS 2622 C coverage and appearance?

PMS 2622 C is a dark, muted purple with low light reflectance, which means it may require more than one coat for uniform opacity, especially over lighter surfaces. Using an undercoat in a similar tone or a gray base can help improve coverage and reduce the number of finish coats needed. Planning for additional coats is recommended to achieve the intended brand appearance and prevent uneven color in high-visibility applications.

How does the choice of finish or sheen affect the visual impact of PMS 2622 C in real-world applications?

The finish you select for PMS 2622 C can significantly affect how the color is perceived. A gloss or satin finish will enhance depth and bring out more vibrancy, while a matte finish will present PMS 2622 C as more muted and understated. When matching brand standards, consider the specified finish, since differences in sheen can shift perceived brightness or saturation and affect viewers' impression of the color.

When do I need to use a primer before applying PMS 2622 C paint?

Primer is recommended for PMS 2622 C if you are coating bare substrates, uneven surfaces, or switching between different materials. The need for primer also depends on the paint type and expected wear. Proper priming enhances adhesion and helps achieve consistent color results, especially for brand displays or installations. Check the specific guidance for your substrate and product type to ensure the best outcome for PMS 2622 C.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2622 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
