To accurately compare PMS 246 C paint samples, evaluate all samples under the same lighting conditions, ideally using neutral or daylight-balanced lighting. Use the same substrate and coating finish type for all samples, as differences in gloss and texture can affect the appearance of PMS 246 C. Ensure that all coatings are fully dry or cured before making any approval decisions, since PMS 246 C can shift slightly as it dries. Aligning these variables minimizes variables and helps ensure your decision reflects the final, installed result.

When using PMS 246 C on metal or powder-coated substrates, clean and scuff the surface thoroughly to improve paint adhesion. Existing coatings and varying gloss levels can cause PMS 246 C to appear differently than expected. For best results, test PMS 246 C on a sample part using the same preparation and finish as your production components before committing to the full application. This helps evaluate color consistency, vibrancy, and any gloss-related shifts under your specific lighting.

To ensure you order the right color, always use the full Pantone PMS code, such as 'PMS 246 C', including any suffix like 'C' for coated. The code is the precise identifier for your project. Avoid ordering by name alone, since some Pantone names are similar or have variants. If your brand standard specifies a certain series or finish, include those details with your order for PMS 246 C.

One standard spray can of PMS 246 C typically covers about 20 to 25 square feet per coat on a smooth, primed surface. Because PMS 246 C is a highly saturated magenta, it may require multiple coats for full coverage and uniform appearance, especially over contrasting backgrounds. Actual coverage will vary based on application method, surface texture, the number of coats, and color intensity requirements. For brand-critical projects, it is best to order extra to allow for sampling and touchups during installation.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
