PMS 1945 C is a standardized color within the Pantone PMS collection, widely used for consistency in brand and marketing implementations. The color presents a strong, assertive red impression with practical descriptors including bold, deep, intense, saturated, and visually commanding. As a system-dependent color, its appearance is defined by Pantone standards rather than digital or formula values.

PMS 1945 C appears dark relative to other reds, with low light reflectance. The color conveys a warm undertone, consistent with saturated reds. PMS 1945 C exhibits high chroma, translating to very vivid saturation. Undertones are distinctly warm, with no significant brown or orange shift. The finish can influence perceived depth and saturation; glossier finishes will enhance vibrancy, while matte finishes may mute the color slightly.

PMS 1945 C is often selected for projects demanding high color visibility, brand presence, and energetic impact, such as displays, signs, and branded environments. When specifying this color, ensure all materials and finishes are evaluated using physical Pantone references and real paint samples under intended lighting. Coverage may require additional coats due to high saturation and potentially low hide; substrate preparation and consistent application technique are important for achieving uniform appearance. In comparison to other reds in the PMS range, PMS 1945 C is notably deeper and more saturated, without the muted or orange-leaning undertones of some related colors.

Similar colors:

PMS 186 C – A slightly lighter, less saturated red, which appears less intense and with reduced visual depth.

PMS 200 C – A darker, slightly more neutral red, with less chromatic intensity and a hint of brownness in the undertone.

PMS 201 C – Noticeably more muted, cooler, and less saturated, presenting a more subdued and formal red tone.

PMS 1935 C – Similar in saturation but marginally warmer and brighter, producing a more vivid, striking red.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 1945 C

How do I ensure PMS 1945 C is accurately represented on prototypes and concept models?

To achieve accurate brand representation using PMS 1945 C on prototypes or concept models, use physical Pantone references to guide evaluation. Order sample amounts of the chosen paint format and finish (such as spray paint or paint pens) to test on your actual prototype materials. Compare samples side-by-side with Pantone color standards under the intended lighting. This process helps confirm that PMS 1945 C delivers the intended brand appearance before scaling up production or display.

Is paint matched to PMS 1945 C returnable if the color or finish is not what I expected?

All paint products matched to PMS 1945 C are custom made to order. Carefully review your product type, finish, and quantity before submitting your order. Because custom-made items are produced specifically for your request, they cannot be returned or exchanged if the result does not fully match your expectations. Sampling is strongly advised when you need to confirm appearance or performance before committing to a full order.

What should I consider when specifying PMS 1945 C for pop-ups or retail environments?

When PMS 1945 C is specified for pop-ups or retail settings, carefully choose the paint format, sheen, and durability to suit your installation. Evaluate finish options with real samples under the lighting of your space, since both lighting and surface gloss will strongly affect the perceived color and vibrancy. Plan to sample the color on your target substrates before large-scale application to ensure PMS 1945 C achieves the desired brand continuity and impact throughout your environment.

What should I know before applying PMS 1945 C to metal or powder-coated parts?

For best results with PMS 1945 C on metal or powder-coated surfaces, thoroughly clean and lightly scuff the area to improve adhesion. Be aware that any existing gloss, color, or texture from previous coatings can influence the final appearance and saturation of PMS 1945 C. Because high-chroma reds may have lower hide, apply sample coats to verify coverage and appearance on your specific parts before proceeding with production quantities.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 1945 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
