PMS 877 U is a Pantone PMS metallic silver selected for projects that require a restrained, technical, and contemporary visual tone rather than a bright chrome effect. It is frequently used in brand environments where neutrality and precision are important.
The color appears as a mid-light silver with an LRV of 28.13 and a cool blue-gray tendency. Its very low chroma keeps the metallic effect subtle, and the fine metallic character makes the finish sensitive to lighting direction and surface smoothness.
PMS 877 U performs best on smooth, properly prepared substrates that allow the metallic particles to align evenly. Irregular surfaces or inconsistent application can create uneven sheen, and finish selection can noticeably affect how bright or subdued the silver appears in real-world lighting.
The following examples reflect commonly cited branding associations and are based on publicly referenced design usage; they are illustrative, not exhaustive or exclusive. PMS 877 U is widely cited as a standard metallic silver reference in corporate identity systems and is commonly referenced in technology and packaging branding as a neutral metallic accent.
Similar colors:
Pantone 877 C: similar metallic silver but slightly brighter and more reflective.
Pantone 871 C: warmer metallic with a more champagne-like silver tone.
Pantone 8001 C: darker and more neutral, with reduced metallic brightness.

Pantone PMS 877 U is a visual color target, not a full coating specification. It does not define sheen, metallic orientation, substrate, film build, or application method. Because of that, a PMS-based match cannot reliably blend into an existing finish, especially with metallic colors where flake size and orientation strongly affect appearance.
If your goal is to make a small area disappear within an existing surface, a PMS reference is too broad. PMS 877 U is best used when the Pantone color itself is the target, such as branded components or displays, not when trying to replicate a previously applied coating.
The finish choice will change how PMS 877 U is perceived. Gloss finishes reflect more light, which can make metallic colors look brighter and more vivid, but they also increase glare under strong lighting. Matte finishes reduce glare and can feel more controlled at close viewing distances, but they may appear slightly flatter or darker.
When deciding, consider viewing distance and lighting. For exhibits or displays seen from farther away, gloss often delivers more visual impact. For close-up brand elements or environments with strong directional lighting, matte can be easier to evaluate. The Pantone reference does not specify finish, so this choice is part of your ordering decision.
PMS 877 U works well for prototypes and concept models where visual brand alignment is the goal. In these cases, the Pantone color is the target, and small visual differences caused by substrate or finish are usually acceptable during evaluation.
For best results, choose the paint format and finish that most closely represent the final intent, then review the color under the lighting where the prototype will be shown. For metallic colors like PMS 877 U, it is especially helpful to evaluate a sample on the actual substrate to understand brightness, texture, and flake appearance before committing to larger quantities.
Start by confirming that PMS 877 U is the correct Pantone reference for your project. Then select the paint type and format that fit your application, such as spray paint or another available option for branding and display use.
Next, choose a finish, since Pantone does not define sheen. Enter the quantity you need, keeping in mind that metallic colors may require additional coats for uniform appearance. Review your selections before checkout to be sure the format, finish, and quantity match how and where the color will be used.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 877 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 877 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
