Pantone™ PMS 871 C

PMS 871 C is a Pantone reference used to communicate a specific metallic gold target, but it does not specify sheen, substrate, or finish effects. This means color appearance can differ significantly when applied to different surfaces or under different lighting. As a result, PMS 871 C is not tight enough for touch-up or repair work where a seamless match to an existing finish is critical. For repairs, it is best to source the original manufacturer's material or submit a physical sample for custom matching.

The SDS for paint matched to PMS 871 C will depend on the specific product type you select, such as spray paint, epoxy, or urethane. The color code does not affect the SDS. To locate the correct SDS, refer to the SDS library for the specific paint product you choose at the time of ordering. When specifying PMS 871 C for pop-ups or retail spaces, it is important to evaluate durability, lighting, and finish. Metallic finishes like PMS 871 C are sensitive to lighting angle, which can impact brand presentation. Always order a sample and inspect it under your intended installation lighting before full production. Account for substrate smoothness and proper preparation to achieve uniform metallic appearance and avoid visible flaws.

Plastics and low energy materials can vary in how well they accept paint, including PMS 871 C. Some plastics require a primer or special surface treatment for proper adhesion. Before committing to production, test your selected paint on the actual substrate to verify adhesion and final appearance. Consult with the paint supplier and provide details about the plastic type for product-specific recommendations.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
