PMS 876 U is a Pantone PMS metallic gold specified as a visual reference color for brand and marketing applications. It presents a warm, weighted gold appearance with a restrained metallic sheen that reads deliberate rather than flashy, often used where a sense of prestige, recognition, or hierarchy is needed.

The color appears dark relative to many metallic golds, with an LRV of 16.8. It reads warm with a yellow-gold bias, shows moderate saturation, and carries a muted golden undertone that reduces glare while maintaining depth.

The metallic character makes PMS 876 U sensitive to surface smoothness, film thickness, and lighting direction. Irregular substrates or inconsistent application can affect uniformity and perceived brightness.

PMS 876 U performs best on smooth, well-prepared surfaces where the metallic effect can develop evenly. Because of its darker value and metallic flake, testing under final lighting conditions helps confirm the intended appearance and avoids surprises during installation.

The following examples reflect commonly cited branding associations and are based on publicly referenced design usage; they are illustrative, not exhaustive or exclusive. This metallic gold family is widely cited for awards, seals, and recognition marks, and is commonly referenced in luxury, finance, and heritage brand systems.

Similar colors:

Pantone 871 C: lighter and brighter, with a more reflective metallic appearance.
Pantone 872 C: warmer and slightly more bronze, with increased depth.
Pantone 877 C: cooler and silver-toned, lacking the gold warmth of PMS 876 U.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 876 U

What does PMS 876 U represent for creating a consistent brand experience?

PMS 876 U is a Pantone Matching System color used as a visual reference to communicate a specific brand color target. It is not a paint formula or finish specification. Brands use PMS 876 U so different vendors and materials can aim at the same color appearance across signage, displays, and marketing environments.

When ordering paint matched to PMS 876 U, the goal is visual alignment to the Pantone standard under typical viewing conditions. Finish, lighting, and substrate can all influence how the color is perceived, so brand-facing applications should be evaluated in context.

Should I choose a matte or gloss finish for a PMS 876 U brand application?

The choice between matte and gloss affects how PMS 876 U is perceived. Glossier finishes tend to increase visual punch and reflectivity, which can make metallic Pantone colors appear more vivid under direct lighting. Matte finishes reduce glare and reflections, which can be helpful in brightly lit spaces or when viewers are close to the surface.

Viewing distance, lighting direction, and brand guidelines should guide this decision. If the installation is high visibility or requires formal approval, ordering a sample in the intended finish is recommended before committing to full production.

Why does licensed reproduction matter when ordering PMS 876 U paint?

Pantone PMS colors like PMS 876 U are licensed color standards. Authorized reproduction means the match is created using Pantone reference data rather than visual guesswork or generic color libraries.

This matters for brand consistency. Using an authorized Pantone match reduces the risk of noticeable color differences across vendors and materials, which is especially important for metallic and brand-critical colors.

How should PMS 876 U spray paint be applied for the most consistent appearance?

For PMS 876 U spray paint, multiple light coats generally produce a more even and controlled finish than one heavy coat. Light passes help metallic pigments distribute more uniformly and reduce the chance of streaking or uneven reflectivity.

Allow each coat to flash and settle before applying the next. Exact timing depends on the product and conditions, so follow the product-specific instructions. Testing on a sample surface is recommended to confirm coverage and visual appearance before production.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 876 U?

Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Can I use the Pantone PMS 876 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
