PMS 872 C

PMS 872 C from the Pantone PMS system is a muted, metallic gold color widely recognized for its application in branding, packaging, and graphic design settings where a warm, sophisticated metallic effect is desired. This color delivers a balanced, refined impression—visually conveying authority, formality, and heritage. Typical descriptors for PMS 872 C include warm, metallic, muted, dignified, and understated.

PMS 872 C displays a moderately low light reflectance value (LRV 19.27), appearing slightly dark compared to more chromatic golds. The color is distinctly warm, exhibiting a rich golden hue with subdued yellow-brown undertones. The saturation is moderate due to the muted, metallic nature; it is not highly vivid, providing a stabilized, classic appearance. This color’s undertone is warm, with brown and subtle copper influences, leading to a vintage gold finish. Finish sensitivity is significant; PMS 872 C is specified as “Metallic” and its appearance will shift notably between matte, satin, and glossy finishes, as well as between coated and uncoated substrates.

PMS 872 C works well in design systems where a gold metallic is needed but where overt brilliancy or excessive shine would detract from legibility or formality. It is often selected for brand marks, point-of-purchase displays, or packaging components that must present as gold without overwhelming surrounding elements. Surface preparation and finish selection are critical; metallic pigments can display unevenly unless applied carefully, and lighting will accentuate any texture or surface flaws. Compared to brighter metallic golds, PMS 872 C offers more restraint and less visible reflectance, reducing glare and improving visual continuity across a range of materials.

Similar colors:
PMS 873 C – Slightly brighter and lighter, with a yellower, more chromatic gold effect.

PMS 874 C – Darker and more bronze, offering a cooler, deeper metallic appearance.

PMS 871 C – Lighter and more neutral, providing a paler, less brown-influenced gold.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 872 C

How do I make sure I am ordering the correct version of Pantone PMS 872 C?

To ensure you receive the right color, always specify the full Pantone code, including the suffix and series, such as PMS 872 C. Pantone color names can be similar, but the code and suffix define the exact color target. For example, 'PMS 872 C' is not the same as PMS 872 U or other variations. Double check your brand guidelines and order details to avoid confusion between similar codes. Ordering by the exact Pantone code minimizes the risk of an incorrect color match for your project.

What are my options if I need Pantone PMS 872 C paint quickly for a tight deadline?

If you have a strict timeline for Pantone PMS 872 C, expedited production is available as an option during checkout. For critical deadlines, contact MyPerfectColor before ordering to confirm whether your schedule can be met. Advance coordination helps ensure you get the correct product in time for your marketing or display project.

Can I use Pantone PMS 872 C as a touch-up color for existing products or finishes?

Pantone PMS 872 C is not intended for touch-up of existing products or finishes. Pantone codes specify color targets but do not define sheen, substrate, or texture, and the finish can vary widely by application method. For consistency, PMS 872 C should only be used where brand color accuracy is the main goal, not for correcting or repairing existing coatings. If you need to match an existing finish, a custom sample match is more appropriate.

What is the best way to apply Pantone PMS 872 C spray paint for a professional finish?

For the best results with Pantone PMS 872 C spray paint, apply several light coats rather than one heavy coat. Allow each thin coat to flash dry before applying the next. This approach improves the evenness of the metallic appearance and helps avoid runs or sagging, which can be noticeable on metallic colors. Proper surface preparation and careful technique are especially important for metallic finishes like PMS 872 C.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 872 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 872 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 872 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
