Pantone™ PMS 7487 U

PMS 7487 U is a Pantone PMS reference that defines a color target, not a coating recipe or finish specification. It does not control sheen, texture, film build, or the aging state of an existing surface. Because of this, a Pantone match cannot reliably blend into an existing painted area.

For PMS 7487 U, the visual result will change based on gloss level, substrate, and lighting. Using it for spot fixes often creates visible differences rather than hiding them. Pantone PMS colors are best used when the Pantone reference itself is the target, such as branded displays or marketing components, not for localized correction of an existing coating.

The choice between matte and gloss for PMS 7487 U affects how strong and saturated the color appears. Gloss finishes tend to increase visual punch and perceived saturation, especially under bright lighting, but can introduce glare at close viewing distances.

Matte finishes reduce reflections and can look more controlled in environments with strong or uneven lighting, but the color may appear slightly softer. Viewing distance, lighting type, and brand expectations should guide the decision. If appearance is critical, ordering a sample in the intended finish is the safest way to confirm the result.

Pantone PMS colors like PMS 7487 U are licensed standards. Licensed reproduction means the color is matched using authorized Pantone references and processes intended to visually align with the official Pantone standard.

This matters for brand work because unlicensed or informal matches can drift in hue or saturation. Licensed reproduction helps ensure PMS 7487 U is reproduced as accurately as possible for marketing, display, and brand-facing applications.

A standard Pantone match is appropriate when PMS 7487 U is the defined brand target, such as for signage, displays, exhibits, prototypes, or short-term brand installations. In these cases, visual alignment to the Pantone reference is more important than matching a specific substrate or legacy finish.

For large or permanent installations, or when multiple materials are involved, confirming the appearance with a sample under actual lighting is recommended. This helps manage expectations for coverage, saturation, and overall visual impact.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
