Color summary PMS 658 U is a Pantone PMS color specified as a light, clean blue with a calm, open presence. It reads as modern, approachable, restrained, clear, and professional, supporting brand systems that need a soft but confident blue without strong visual weight.
Color characteristics The color appears light to mid-light, with an LRV of 48.29. This color reads cool, with a blue base that leans slightly toward violet. The color shows moderate saturation, appearing clear without strong intensity.
This color carries a subtle violet undertone that adds softness rather than sharpness.
Practical application This color works well on broad surfaces, panels, and brand-facing elements where a calm blue is needed without visual heaviness. Lighting can influence its perceived coolness, and higher-sheen finishes may make the violet undertone more noticeable. As a lighter blue, it may benefit from a light-colored primer and even application to maintain uniformity across substrates.
Similar colors:
PMS 657 U: slightly lighter and more open, with less violet influence.
PMS 659 U: darker and more saturated, with stronger blue presence.
PMS 658 C: slightly cleaner and brighter, with a crisper blue appearance.

Pantone PMS 658 U is a color reference, not a complete coating specification. It defines a visual color target, but it does not control sheen, texture, film build, or the original substrate. When you apply a new paint matched to PMS 658 U over an existing finish, even small differences in gloss, aging, or surface prep can make the color appear different. Because of these variables, a Pantone match is best used when PMS 658 U itself is the target color, not when trying to blend into an unknown or previously applied finish.
For PMS 658 U, ordering a small sample first is the safest way to support brand approvals. Apply the sample using the same product format and surface you plan to use in the final build. Review it under the actual lighting where it will be installed, since lighting can shift how the color is perceived. Once PMS 658 U is approved in context, you can proceed with larger quantities knowing the visual result aligns with expectations.
Safety and VOC characteristics are determined by the specific paint product used to match PMS 658 U, not by the Pantone color itself. Always review the Safety Data Sheet for the exact product and follow the recommended ventilation, handling, and personal protection guidance. Requirements can vary by product type and application method, so do not assume that all PMS 658 U paints behave the same from a safety standpoint.
Coverage for a spray can matched to PMS 658 U depends on surface texture, application technique, and the number of coats required. Saturated Pantone colors often need additional coats to achieve even hide. Use the coverage guidance listed for the specific spray product as a starting point, then add extra cans to account for test sprays, overlap, and any additional coats needed for uniform color.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 658 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 658 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
