PMS 556 U is a Pantone PMS color specified as a subdued, earthy green with gray influence, conveying a calm, utilitarian, grounded, professional, and understated visual character.
The color appears mid-to-dark in value, with an LRV of 31.6. It reads cool overall, with a green base moderated by gray, and has low-to-moderate saturation that keeps the appearance controlled and softened.
PMS 556 U works well in brand-facing environments where a natural, subdued green supports signage, displays, or architectural elements without drawing attention away from primary brand features. Lighting conditions can shift its balance slightly greener or grayer, and careful surface preparation helps maintain an even appearance.

Pantone 555 U: slightly darker and more neutral, with reduced green presence.
Pantone 557 U: lighter and more open, with a softer gray-green balance.
Pantone 553 U: darker and cooler, with increased visual weight and depth.

Pantone PMS 556 U is a color reference, not a paint product or chemical specification. Safety characteristics such as VOC content, ventilation needs, and handling precautions depend entirely on the specific paint type and format you choose.
Before use, review the Safety Data Sheet for the exact product you order and follow all application, ventilation, and disposal guidance provided by the manufacturer. This is especially important for spray paint and other solvent-based options used for branding or display applications.
Whether a primer is needed for Pantone PMS 556 U depends on the substrate, the paint type, and the exposure conditions. Bare or porous surfaces, previously coated materials with poor adhesion, or non-uniform substrates often require a primer for consistent color appearance.
Using a compatible primer can improve adhesion and help achieve more uniform coverage, especially for brand-facing applications where visual consistency matters. Primer recommendations are specific to the product you select, so review the product guidance before ordering.
Durability for spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 556 U depends on surface preparation, the specific spray paint formulation, and the environment where it is used. Pantone matching focuses on visual color accuracy, not durability performance.
For higher wear, handling, or environmental exposure, select a spray paint type designed for those conditions and follow all surface prep and curing recommendations. In some cases, a compatible clear coat may be used to improve durability without changing the color target.
Pantone PMS 556 U can be matched in multiple paint types, but the correct choice depends on whether the application is interior or exterior. Interior projects typically prioritize appearance under controlled lighting, while exterior applications require resistance to weather and UV exposure.
Select a paint product specifically rated for the environment where it will be used. The Pantone code defines the color target only, so confirming the intended use during ordering helps ensure the paint type meets performance expectations.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 556 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 556 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
