PMS 555 U is a Pantone Matching System color used as a standardized visual reference for brand and marketing applications. It presents as a deep, subdued blue-green with a calm, institutional feel, often perceived as serious, stable, reserved, and corporate.

The color appears dark, with an LRV of 10.66. This color reads cool, leaning toward blue-green rather than yellow-green.

The color shows moderate saturation, appearing muted rather than vivid. This color carries a subtle blue undertone that softens its green base.

PMS 555 U works well in branded displays, signage, and fabricated elements where a low-glare, understated color presence supports logos or messaging. Because of its depth and muted saturation, uneven surfaces or inconsistent film build can show variation, so smooth preparation and even application help maintain a uniform appearance.

In low light or matte finishes, the color may appear darker and more reserved than expected.

Similar colors:

PMS 554 U: slightly lighter and more open, with reduced depth.
PMS 556 U: darker and cooler, with a more subdued green presence.
PMS 553 U: lighter and warmer, with increased green clarity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 555 U

How should I use PMS 555 U when creating prototypes or concept models?

PMS 555 U is a Pantone PMS reference, meaning it defines a visual color target rather than a specific paint formula. For prototypes and concept models, this is typically appropriate when the goal is to communicate brand color intent clearly and consistently.

When ordering paint matched to PMS 555 U, select a format that fits how the prototype will be built and viewed, such as spray paint for even coverage or brush formats for small components. Plan to evaluate the color on the actual substrate and under the lighting where the model will be reviewed, since material and lighting can change how the color appears.

Where can I find the SDS for paint matched to Pantone PMS 555 U?

The Safety Data Sheet is not tied to the Pantone PMS 555 U color code itself. Instead, the SDS depends on the specific paint product and chemistry you order.

After selecting the paint type and format for PMS 555 U, you can find the corresponding SDS in the SDS library for that product. Always review the SDS for the exact product you plan to use, especially if you are confirming handling, storage, or safety requirements.

What is the difference between the name and code for Pantone PMS 555 U when ordering paint?

Pantone PMS 555 U is the full and precise identifier for this color. The number defines the hue, and the suffix "U" indicates the uncoated Pantone reference.

When ordering paint, always use the complete code PMS 555 U rather than relying on a shortened name or description. Leaving out the suffix or using an incorrect series can result in a different color target than intended.

When is a standard Pantone PMS match for PMS 555 U the right choice?

A standard Pantone PMS match for PMS 555 U is appropriate when the Pantone reference itself is the approved color target. This is common for brand-facing applications such as marketing displays, signage, exhibits, and concept models.

If the project involves high visibility, multiple materials, or formal brand approval, it is often best to order a sample first and review it on the actual substrate and under installed lighting. This helps confirm that the visual appearance of PMS 555 U meets expectations before full production.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 555 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 555 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 555 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

See our Primer Selection Table to see what primer you might need and learn more about when you might need a primer. Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 555 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 555 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
