PMS 536 U is a Pantone Matching System color that reads as a subdued blue-gray with a calm, reserved character. The overall impression is cool, balanced, and professional, with low visual noise and controlled saturation suitable for brand-forward environments.

The color shows a mid-range lightness with an LRV of 43.67. It leans cool with a blue-violet tendency, maintains low to moderate saturation, and carries a subtle gray undertone that reduces brightness and intensity.

This color works well in branded environments that require clarity without strong contrast or vibrancy. Because of its muted nature, careful surface preparation and consistent application help maintain an even appearance, and lighting or finish changes can shift it toward a more neutral gray.

Similar colors:

PMS 535 U: lighter and softer, with a more open gray-blue appearance.
PMS 537 U: darker and cooler, with increased depth and visual weight.
PMS 7545 U: more neutral and gray-forward, with reduced blue presence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 536 U

What does ordering a Pantone PMS 536 U paint match actually mean?

Pantone PMS 536 U is a standardized Pantone color reference used to communicate an exact visual color target. When you order paint matched to PMS 536 U, you are ordering a paint that is mixed to visually match the Pantone reference under standard viewing conditions.

Pantone PMS codes are not paint formulas, coating systems, or finish specifications. The match is based on appearance, not on duplicating Pantone ink chemistry. Because of this, the final look can vary slightly depending on paint type, finish, substrate, and lighting.

Will surface texture change how Pantone PMS 536 U looks after application?

Yes. Surface texture can noticeably affect how Pantone PMS 536 U is perceived. Smooth surfaces tend to reflect light more evenly, often making the color appear cleaner or slightly brighter. Textured or porous surfaces can create shadows and uneven reflectivity, which may make the same color look darker or less saturated.

If PMS 536 U is being used on different materials or textures within the same project, it is recommended to evaluate a sample on each substrate before final production.

What product formats are available for Pantone PMS 536 U paint?

Pantone PMS 536 U is available as custom spray paint and other paint formats for branding and display applications. Common options include spray paint, paint pens, and brush-in-cap bottles, with additional coatings offered depending on the application.

The right format depends on how the color will be applied, the size of the area, and the level of finish control needed. For large or highly visible brand elements, spray paint is often preferred for uniform coverage.

Where can I find the SDS for paint made to match Pantone PMS 536 U?

The Safety Data Sheet is based on the specific paint product, not the Pantone color itself. Pantone PMS 536 U does not have its own SDS.

After selecting the paint type or spray product for PMS 536 U, you can find the corresponding SDS in the SDS library for that product. Always review the SDS for the exact coating you are ordering to ensure it meets your safety and compliance requirements.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 536 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 536 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 536 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 536 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 536 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
