PMS 533 U is a Pantone PMS color recognized as a deep, low-lightness navy with a serious, institutional character. The overall vibe reads as subdued, formal, controlled, stable, and visually dense rather than vivid.
The color appears very dark, with a low Light Reflectance Value (LRV 3.25). It presents a cool overall tendency with low to moderate saturation and a subtle blue-violet undertone that can emerge under stronger lighting.
This color works well in environments where visual authority, discretion, or reduced glare is important, such as branded backdrops or structural elements in displays. Because of its very low lightness, surface preparation and even film build matter, as inconsistencies or sheen variation can become visible under directional lighting. Compared to slightly lighter navies, it absorbs more light and can appear nearly black at a distance, especially in matte finishes.
This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Pantone 533 C: slightly cleaner and more defined, with a marginally higher visual clarity.
Pantone 534 U: darker and more muted, with reduced blue presence.
Pantone 282 U: lighter and more open, with clearer navy definition.

PMS 533 U is a Pantone color target, not a material-specific formula. When the same color is applied to different substrates, absorption, surface texture, and reflectivity can change how the color appears.
Non-porous materials like metal may look deeper or glossier, while porous substrates like wood can soften or darken the appearance. Plastics and composites can also reflect light differently.
For multi-material builds, evaluate PMS 533 U on the actual substrates used in the final installation before committing to full production.
Always order using the full Pantone code PMS 533 U. The code is the precise color target, while the name alone can be ambiguous.
The suffix matters. PMS 533 U refers to the uncoated Pantone reference, which is different from coated or other series. Leaving out the U can result in a different color target.
Using the exact Pantone code helps avoid ordering the wrong color for brand-critical applications.
Yes. For brand approval workflows, ordering a small sample of PMS 533 U is recommended before large builds.
Review the sample on the actual substrate and under the lighting where it will be installed. Lighting, finish, and material can all affect perceived color.
Sampling reduces the risk of rework and helps ensure stakeholders approve the appearance before full production.
Transit time for PMS 533 U paint depends on your location and the shipping method selected at checkout.
Custom Pantone matched products require production time before shipping, and carrier transit times vary.
If you have a fixed installation or launch date, plan ahead and allow extra time for production, transit, and any required sampling or approvals.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 533 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 533 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
