PMS 499 U is a Pantone PMS color defined within the Pantone Matching System and commonly specified for brand and identity programs requiring a dark, restrained red-brown. It conveys a grounded, subdued, and serious vibe with organic warmth and minimal visual brightness.
The color appears very dark, with an LRV of 7.09. It leans warm with an earthy, muted undertone, and its moderate saturation keeps it from reading as vivid or bright.
PMS 499 U works well in brand environments where low reflectance and reduced visual noise are desired, such as backgrounds or structural elements. Its depth means surface preparation, lighting, and finish selection can influence uniformity and perceived warmth.
Similar colors: PMS 476 U: darker and more neutral, with less red warmth.MyPerfectColor is the official licensee of Pantone and authorized to reproduce the Pantone™ PMS 499 U color in spray paint and other paints.

PMS 499 U is a Pantone reference color, not a paint formula. Pantone books are printed on specific paper under controlled conditions, while paint is applied to real substrates with a chosen sheen.
When you compare PMS 499 U paint to a Pantone book, expect visible differences caused by finish, substrate, film thickness, and lighting. A matte or satin paint can look softer or darker than the book chip, while higher sheen can increase perceived depth.
For critical brand work, the correct approach is to evaluate a painted sample of PMS 499 U on your actual material and under the lighting where it will be used, rather than relying on a direct book comparison.
The Safety Data Sheet is not specific to PMS 499 U itself. SDS documents are tied to the paint product and chemistry, not the Pantone color code.
After you select a paint type for PMS 499 U, such as spray paint or another format, the SDS for that product can be found in the SDS library associated with the selected paint line.
If you need an SDS for compliance or documentation, make sure you reference the exact product you are ordering in PMS 499 U.
PMS 499 U is part of the Pantone Matching System, which is a licensed color standard. Accurate reproduction requires access to Pantone reference data and controlled color matching processes.
Using a licensed and authorized reproduction ensures that PMS 499 U is matched to the Pantone standard as intended, rather than estimated or approximated.
This matters most for brand-facing applications where visual consistency across vendors and materials is expected.
Yes. For brand approval workflows, ordering a small sample of PMS 499 U is the safest way to confirm acceptance before committing to a larger order.
Evaluate the sample on the actual substrate, with the intended sheen, and under installed lighting. This helps catch perception shifts that cannot be predicted from a Pantone book alone.
Sampling is especially important for high-visibility displays, exhibits, or multi-material builds that require formal signoff.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 499 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 499 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
