Pantone™ PMS 485 U

PMS 485 U is a Pantone PMS reference color, and its appearance can change depending on lighting and viewing conditions. Different light sources such as daylight, LED, or fluorescent can shift how saturated reds are perceived. Surface sheen and surrounding colors also influence what you see.

For brand-critical work, evaluate PMS 485 U under the same lighting where the finished piece will be displayed. This helps reduce surprises caused by metamerism, where a color match looks right in one light but different in another.

PMS 485 U is a vivid, highly saturated color, so application technique matters. Multiple light coats generally produce more even color and better visual uniformity than one heavy coat.

Allow each coat to flash dry before applying the next. Exact timing depends on the product format, temperature, and airflow, but rushing coats can lead to uneven appearance or solvent trapping. Building color gradually helps achieve a cleaner, more consistent Pantone match.

PMS 485 U is a licensed Pantone PMS standard, not a generic color name. Licensed reproduction means the paint is matched using authorized Pantone color targets, rather than approximated visually or from unofficial data.

This matters for brand-facing applications where color accuracy is expected. Using an authorized Pantone PMS match helps ensure PMS 485 U aligns more closely with brand standards across displays, signage, and marketing materials.

Coverage for PMS 485 U spray paint is approximate and depends on how it is applied. As a general planning guideline, one spray can often covers about 10 to 12 square feet per coat.

Highly saturated colors like PMS 485 U may require additional coats for uniform hide, especially on darker or uneven substrates. Surface texture, spray technique, and the number of coats all affect total coverage, so ordering extra material is recommended for brand-critical projects.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
