PMS 485 C is a standardized color in the Pantone Matching System, widely used for consistent branding across various industries. The color is bold, attention-grabbing, and energetic with a distinctly warm and saturated vibe. In marketing, display fabrication, and industrial design contexts, PMS 485 C serves as a strong signal color, favoring high-visibility situations and environments where robust brand identification is required.
PMS 485 C presents as a strong, medium-dark red (LRV 17.59). The color exhibits a distinctly warm hue with a slight orange undertone, corresponding to its position in the Pantone system. This color is highly saturated and visually impactful. PMS 485 C can shift slightly depending on lighting conditions and the chosen finish, with matte finishes appearing less intense and glossier sheens enhancing vibrancy. Surface preparation and material selection may influence color uniformity due to its high chromatic intensity.
PMS 485 C is commonly specified in corporate branding systems for logos, accent elements, and branded environments where immediate visual recognition is required.
PMS 485 C is most effective where a noticeable and consistent red is needed for branding, displays, or marketing installations. Uniform coverage may require additional coats, as highly saturated reds can have lower hide on light substrates. For best results, always evaluate the color in the intended lighting and on the actual substrate. Variations in finish (gloss, matte, satin) and ambient light will materially affect perceived vibrancy and warmth compared to less saturated reds.
This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Surface texture can significantly affect how PMS 485 C appears in branding and display settings. A smoother, glossier surface will reflect more light and can make the red appear brighter and more saturated, while a matte or textured surface will diffuse light, often muting vibrancy and making the color look slightly darker or duller. For consistent brand color, evaluate PMS 485 C on the same substrate and finish used in your final project under the intended lighting.
For PMS 485 C, it is best to apply multiple light coats, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. Highly saturated colors like PMS 485 C may require extra coats to achieve uniform coverage, especially over light substrates. Avoid heavy coats, as this can lead to runs and uneven color. Patience between coats results in a smoother, more brand-accurate finish.
PMS 485 C provides a color-accurate reference for visual brand evaluations during prototyping and concept modeling. Choose a paint format that matches your model's surface and preparation method. Always compare the painted sample to a physical Pantone reference under project lighting. This helps identify any color differences caused by material or finish and supports decision-making on next steps for brand alignment.
The choice between matte and gloss for PMS 485 C depends on viewing conditions and desired visual effect. Gloss finishes increase saturation and vibrancy, making PMS 485 C stand out at a distance or in well-lit spaces, but may introduce glare under direct lighting. Matte finishes reduce glare and reflections, offering a subtler red that is easier to photograph and view up close. Evaluate both options under your project lighting and at intended viewing distances before finalizing your order.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 485 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
