Pantone™ PMS 371 U

Pantone PMS 371 U is a visual color reference, not a specification for an existing coating system. It does not define sheen, film build, substrate, or application method, all of which strongly affect how a color looks once applied.

When you try to use PMS 371 U to touch up an existing painted surface, even a close color match can appear different because the original finish has its own gloss level, aging, and texture. For brand-facing work, PMS colors are best used as the target for a full, visually consistent application rather than spot corrections on an existing finish.

Choosing the right paint type for PMS 371 U depends on where the finished piece will live, not on the color itself. Interior paint types are appropriate for displays, exhibits, signage, and brand elements that stay indoors and are not exposed to weather.

If the PMS 371 U color will be used outdoors or in environments with sun, moisture, or temperature swings, an exterior-rated paint is the better choice for durability and color retention. The Pantone reference stays the same, but the paint chemistry should match the exposure conditions.

Pantone PMS 371 U functions as a shared color target so different vendors and materials can aim for the same visual result. Brands use PMS colors like 371 U to keep logos, displays, signage, and environments visually consistent across locations and campaigns.

Because it is a communication standard, the goal is visual alignment rather than an exact material match. Evaluating the color under the intended lighting and on the actual substrate helps ensure the PMS 371 U application supports the intended brand experience.

For best results with a PMS 371 U match, start with a clean surface free of dust, oils, and residues. Degreasing is important on plastics, metals, or previously handled parts where fingerprints or release agents may be present.

Light scuffing can improve adhesion on smooth surfaces, followed by removing sanding residue. A small test application on the actual substrate is strongly recommended to confirm coverage, appearance, and acceptance before committing to a full application.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
