PMS 314 U is a Pantone PMS color identified within the Pantone Matching System as a dark, cool blue-green with a controlled, professional character. It presents as focused, composed, technical, and visually grounded, making it suitable for brand-forward applications where consistency and color authority matter.

The color appears dark, with a low Light Reflectance Value of 14.55. This color reads as cool, leaning toward blue with green influence, and shows moderate to strong saturation that maintains clarity without appearing neon.

The color carries a stable blue-green undertone and can show variation in depth across different finishes and surface textures.

PMS 314 U works well for brand-facing elements such as displays, signage, and fabricated components where a controlled, cool-toned presence is desired. Its darker value can make surface preparation important, as uneven substrates or high-contrast backgrounds may remain visible without proper priming and consistent film build. Finish choice and lighting conditions can noticeably influence perceived depth and saturation.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting. Similar colors:
PMS 313 U: slightly lighter and more open, with a clearer turquoise expression.
PMS 315 U: darker and more muted, with reduced green presence.
PMS 312 U: brighter and more chromatic, with higher visual energy.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 314 U

How should I use Pantone PMS 314 U paint for prototypes or concept models?

Pantone PMS 314 U is a visual color reference used to align prototypes and concept models to brand standards. For prototyping, choose a format that matches how the model will be viewed and handled, such as spray paint for even coverage on display surfaces or brush formats for small parts.

Plan to evaluate PMS 314 U on the actual substrate used in the prototype and under the lighting where it will be reviewed. Finish and sheen can change perceived brightness and saturation, so confirm acceptability before committing to multiple parts or a final build.

Do I need a primer before applying Pantone PMS 314 U paint?

Whether a primer is needed for Pantone PMS 314 U depends on the paint type, the substrate, and the expected exposure. Bare metals, plastics, and porous materials commonly benefit from a compatible primer to improve adhesion and color uniformity.

PMS 314 U is a saturated color, so a primer can also help with hide and reduce the number of coats needed. Always evaluate the full system, including primer and topcoat, on a sample of your actual substrate before production.

What does the "U" mean in Pantone PMS 314 U, and why does it matter when ordering?

The "U" in Pantone PMS 314 U indicates the Pantone reference series the color comes from. Pantone colors can appear in different series or suffixes, and those references are not interchangeable.

Before ordering PMS 314 U paint, confirm that this exact code and suffix match your brand standards or project documentation. Ordering the wrong series can result in a visible color difference, even though the base number appears the same.

How long does shipping usually take for Pantone PMS 314 U paint orders?

Shipping time for Pantone PMS 314 U paint depends on your location, the paint format ordered, and the shipping method selected at checkout. Transit time begins after the paint is produced, not at the time of order placement.

If you have a deadline tied to a prototype review, installation, or marketing launch, plan extra time for production and shipping. Ordering a sample early can help avoid schedule risk on time-sensitive projects.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 314 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 314 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 314 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 314 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
