PMS 315 U is a Pantone PMS color specified as a visual color target rather than a paint formula. It conveys a cool, restrained, and professional blue-green character with a muted, low-light appearance that reads serious and grounded rather than bright.

The color appears very dark, with an LRV of 9.01. It leans cool in the blue-green range, shows moderate chroma, and carries a subtle green undertone beneath a dominant blue impression.

PMS 315 U works well in brand environments where a darker blue-green is needed to convey stability or technical confidence without drawing excessive attention. Its low lightness means surface preparation and even application matter, as inconsistencies can be more visible in darker colors, especially in higher-sheen finishes.

Under bright or directional lighting, the color may read more blue or more green depending on surface texture and finish.

Similar colors:
PMS 316 U: darker and more subdued, with reduced chroma and a heavier visual weight.
PMS 3145 U: lighter and slightly clearer, with a more open blue-green appearance.
PMS 321 U: brighter and more saturated, with stronger green influence and higher visual energy.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 315 U

When ordering paint, what does the Pantone name and code mean for PMS 315 U?

PMS 315 U is the full Pantone color reference. The number identifies the specific color, and the U suffix indicates the uncoated Pantone standard. Pantone names are not interchangeable, so ordering by the exact code including the U suffix is critical. If you omit the suffix or substitute a different series such as C, you will receive a different color target.

Pantone PMS codes are color communication standards, not paint formulas. MyPerfectColor reproduces PMS 315 U visually based on the Pantone reference, so providing the exact code helps ensure the closest possible match for brand and display applications.

What should I expect for coverage and hide when using PMS 315 U paint?

PMS 315 U is a saturated Pantone color, and colors in this range often have lower hide. This means the underlying surface can influence the final appearance, especially on lighter or uneven substrates.

For more uniform results, plan for multiple coats and consider using a suitable undercoat. A consistent undercoat can help PMS 315 U reach its intended visual depth more efficiently, but you should still expect to apply additional coats compared to neutral colors.

How does finish choice affect how PMS 315 U looks once applied?

Finish has a noticeable impact on how PMS 315 U is perceived. Gloss finishes tend to appear deeper and more saturated, while satin or matte finishes can make the same color look softer or slightly darker.

Pantone standards are visual references, not finish specifications. When brand accuracy is important, choose the finish intentionally and, if needed, evaluate a sample in the actual lighting and finish before committing to a larger order.

Can I expedite production if I need PMS 315 U paint by a specific deadline?

Yes. Expedited production is typically available as an option during checkout for PMS 315 U paint products. This can reduce production time when schedules are tight.

If your project has a firm delivery deadline, it is a good idea to contact MyPerfectColor before ordering to confirm current lead times and whether expedited production will meet your needs.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 315 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 315 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 315 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 315 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 315 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
