PMS 2747 U is a Pantone PMS color used in branding and marketing contexts that call for a dark, saturated violet presence. It conveys a bold, cool, and visually dense character that stands out in high-contrast applications.

The color is very dark, with an LRV of 2.3, and leans cool with a pronounced blue-violet undertone. Its high saturation gives it strong visual intensity, particularly in larger areas or under direct lighting.

This color performs well in signage, exhibits, and branded environments where depth and authority are important. Because of its darkness, careful surface preparation and consistent application can help avoid uneven appearance, especially compared to lighter or more neutral purple tones.

Similar colors:
PMS 2747 C: slightly cleaner and more controlled, with a marginally less muted appearance.
Pantone 2755 U: darker and more subdued, with reduced chroma and less violet clarity.
Pantone 2685 C: lighter and more open, with a clearer purple presence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2747 U

What safety and VOC considerations apply when ordering paint matched to Pantone PMS 2747 U?

Pantone PMS 2747 U is a color reference, not a paint specification. Safety, VOC levels, and handling requirements depend on the specific paint product and format you choose, such as spray paint or brush-applied coatings.

Before use, review the Safety Data Sheet for the exact product you are ordering and follow all application, ventilation, and personal protection guidance provided by the manufacturer. Do not assume safety characteristics based on the Pantone color itself.

How can I maintain uniform appearance when applying Pantone PMS 2747 U over large areas?

Pantone PMS 2747 U is a dark, saturated color, which can make uneven coverage more noticeable on large surfaces. Plan for consistent application technique, including steady overlap and uniform film thickness.

Apply multiple controlled coats rather than trying to achieve full hide in a single pass. Keep substrate preparation, primer choice if used, and application method consistent across the entire area to reduce patchiness or visible variation.

Is there an exact cross-reference from Pantone PMS 2747 U to other paint brand color systems?

No. Pantone PMS 2747 U does not have a guaranteed exact equivalent in other paint company color collections. Pantone PMS is a visual color standard, and each paint brand uses its own pigments, formulas, and bases.

Any cross-reference should be treated as an approximation. For brand-critical projects, the Pantone PMS reference should be used as the target, and a physical sample or test application is recommended to confirm acceptance.

Do I need a primer when using paint matched to Pantone PMS 2747 U?

Primer requirements for Pantone PMS 2747 U depend on the paint type, substrate, and exposure conditions. Dark and saturated colors can benefit from proper priming to improve coverage uniformity and reduce the number of finish coats.

Always follow the primer recommendations for the specific product and surface you are using. If the project is brand-critical or high visibility, testing the full system, primer plus topcoat, on the actual substrate is the safest approach.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 2747 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 2747 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 2747 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 2747 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 2747 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
