Pantone™ PMS 2617 U

PMS 2617 U is a Pantone reference color, and its appearance can shift based on the light source and how it is viewed. Different lighting types can emphasize or reduce certain undertones, and viewing angle and distance also matter. To reduce surprises, evaluate a sample of PMS 2617 U under the same lighting where it will be used and from the typical viewing distance.

Because metamerism can occur, two samples that match under one light may not match under another. This is normal behavior for saturated Pantone colors and is best managed through real-world evaluation.

For projects that require brand approval, order a small sample of PMS 2617 U before committing to a full run. Apply the sample to the actual substrate and review it under the installed lighting conditions.

This allows stakeholders to confirm appearance, coverage, and overall visual alignment early. Sampling is especially important for saturated Pantone colors like PMS 2617 U, where perception can change with material and environment.

Pantone color books are reference standards printed with specific inks on paper. When PMS 2617 U is produced as paint, differences in substrate and sheen can cause it to look different from the book chip.

The Pantone book should be treated as the color target, not a guarantee of identical appearance in paint. Always compare a painted sample to the book under controlled lighting and make acceptance decisions based on the real material, not the printed reference alone.

Sheen has a direct impact on how PMS 2617 U is perceived. Higher sheens reflect more light, which can make the color appear brighter and more saturated, while lower sheens can soften the appearance.

Choose sheen based on the substrate, viewing distance, and how the color will be evaluated in use. Because sheen changes perception, confirm the final look of PMS 2617 U with a sample in the exact sheen required before placing a full order.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
