Pantone™ PMS 2583 U

PMS 2583 U is a bright, saturated Pantone color. Colors in this range often have lower hide than neutral tones, which means the underlying surface can influence the final appearance.

Plan for additional coats to achieve uniform color and saturation, especially over dark or high-contrast substrates. Applying PMS 2583 U over a consistent, appropriate base color helps reduce variability and improves visual consistency across parts.

Whether a primer is needed for PMS 2583 U depends on the paint type, the substrate, and the condition of the surface. Bare, porous, or uneven materials typically benefit from a primer to improve adhesion and color uniformity.

For previously coated or sealed surfaces, primer may not be required if the surface is clean and compatible, but using one can still help control hide and reduce the number of finish coats needed. When in doubt, testing on the actual substrate is the safest way to confirm results.

Pantone books are printed reference standards, while PMS 2583 U paint is a liquid coating applied to a specific surface. Differences in sheen, texture, and substrate can cause the painted color to appear lighter, darker, or more saturated than the book chip.

Use the Pantone book as a color target, not a guarantee of identical appearance. For brand-critical projects, applying a sample of PMS 2583 U on the actual material and viewing it under the final lighting conditions is the best way to set expectations and gain approval.

When applying PMS 2583 U to metal or existing powder-coated surfaces, proper preparation is essential. Surfaces should be clean and lightly scuffed as needed to promote adhesion.

Existing coating color and gloss level can affect how PMS 2583 U appears, especially for saturated hues. Because of this, evaluating a sample on the actual metal or powder-coated part is strongly recommended before committing to full production.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
