Pantone™ PMS 252 U

Ordering PMS 252 U as a Pantone match means the paint is custom mixed to visually target the Pantone PMS 252 U color standard. Pantone PMS is a color communication system, not a paint formula, coating process, or finish specification.

The goal is visual alignment to the Pantone reference under typical viewing conditions. Because Pantone colors originate from printed ink standards, exact matching across different paint types, sheens, and substrates is not guaranteed. Always evaluate a physical sample if approval or brand sign-off is required.

A standard PMS 252 U match is appropriate when the Pantone reference is the intended color target, such as for brand-facing displays, signage, exhibits, prototypes, and marketing installations.

This option works well when visual brand consistency is more important than matching an existing painted surface or material. For large or high-visibility projects, especially with formal brand approvals, ordering samples first is recommended.

For pop-ups and retail installations, PMS 252 U should be evaluated on the actual substrate and under the installed lighting conditions. Lighting can significantly affect how saturated Pantone colors are perceived.

Durability needs depend on traffic, handling, and exposure, so choose the paint format accordingly and confirm appearance with a sample before committing to full production. This helps avoid surprises once the color is installed at scale.

One spray can of PMS 252 U typically covers about 10 to 12 square feet with a single, even coat. Actual coverage varies based on spray technique, surface texture, and how heavily the paint is applied.

Saturated Pantone colors may require additional coats for uniform hide, especially on darker or porous surfaces. When estimating quantity, account for multiple coats and order extra material to ensure consistency across the project.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
