Color summary PMS 253 U is a Pantone PMS color used in brand-controlled environments where color consistency and visual strength are critical. It conveys a bold, expressive presence with high saturation and a distinctly magenta character.
Color characteristics The color appears dark overall, with an LRV of 12.51, giving it strong contrast against lighter surroundings. It leans warm with a red-magenta tendency, is highly saturated, and shows a pronounced magenta undertone with little neutrality.
Practical application PMS 253 U performs well in signage, displays, and marketing installations that rely on immediate visibility and strong brand recognition. Its saturation can make coverage more demanding, so proper priming and multiple thin coats can help achieve a uniform result. Finish choice and lighting conditions can noticeably affect perceived intensity.
Similar colors: PMS 252 U: slightly lighter and less saturated, with a softer visual presence.MyPerfectColor is the official licensee of Pantone and authorized to reproduce the Pantone™ PMS 253 U color in spray paint and other paints.

Yes. PMS 253 U is commonly used as a Pantone reference target when brand standards specify this color for signs, displays, or exhibit elements. In these contexts, the goal is visual brand alignment rather than matching a specific factory coating.
Because signs and fabricated elements use different substrates and finishes, the most reliable approach is to evaluate a sample made on the actual material and finish you plan to use. This helps confirm that the PMS 253 U match meets brand expectations under real lighting conditions.
For PMS 253 U matched paint, start with a clean, dry surface free of dust, grease, and residues. Light degreasing is typically sufficient for most sign and display substrates.
On smooth or glossy surfaces, light scuffing can improve adhesion, followed by removing any sanding residue. Always apply a small test spot first to confirm adhesion and appearance before full application.
The Pantone book chip for PMS 253 U is a reference standard, not a promise of identical appearance in paint. Differences in sheen, substrate, and application method can change how the color looks.
It is normal for a painted PMS 253 U sample to appear different from the printed book chip. Evaluating a sample on your actual material is the best way to judge acceptance for your project.
Sampling PMS 253 U is recommended for high-visibility brand projects, large installations, or any situation requiring formal brand approval. Sampling is especially important when lighting conditions or substrates could affect how the color is perceived.
Creating a sample allows stakeholders to review coverage, finish, and overall appearance before committing to full production, reducing the risk of rework or rejection.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 253 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
