Color summary PMS 1797 U is a Pantone PMS color specified within the Pantone Matching System and widely recognized as a saturated, attention-forward red. It conveys an assertive, energetic, bold, confident, and high-contrast visual character that is often selected for brand-critical applications.

Color characteristics The color appears visually dark-to-mid in value with an LRV of 15.28 and presents a warm red hue with a subtle orange-leaning tendency. It exhibits high saturation and strong chroma, maintaining a clean red appearance with minimal neutrality.

Practical application PMS 1797 U performs well in controlled branding environments where color accuracy and visual impact take priority. Its saturation and lower LRV mean additional coats may be needed for uniform coverage, and finish choice can significantly influence perceived brightness.

Common uses The color is frequently specified for brand-facing signage and display elements and is commonly applied to exhibit structures, retail fixtures, and promotional installations. It is often used on dimensional letters, panels, and visual accents where brand accuracy is critical.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 1797 U

How should PMS 1797 U be evaluated before a retail pop-up or brand installation?

PMS 1797 U is a Pantone reference color, not a finish specification, so evaluation under real conditions is important before large installations. For retail or pop-up environments, order a physical sample in the intended paint format and apply it to the actual substrate. Review the color under the installed lighting, since brightness and saturation can shift significantly with light type and intensity. This step helps confirm brand acceptance and reduces the risk of surprises once the space is built out.

Which sheen should I choose for PMS 1797 U to maintain brand accuracy?

Sheen can noticeably change how PMS 1797 U appears. Glossier finishes tend to look brighter and more saturated under direct lighting, while flatter finishes can appear deeper and slightly muted. Choose sheen based on viewing distance, lighting, and the surface being painted, then confirm with a sample. If brand approval is required, always submit the sample in the exact sheen planned for production.

Is PMS 1797 U appropriate for prototypes or concept models?

Yes. PMS 1797 U is commonly used for prototypes and concept models where visual brand alignment is the goal. Select a paint format that matches the scale and material of the model, such as spray paint for even coverage or small-format paints for detail work. Review the prototype under presentation lighting and treat it as a visual reference, not a guarantee that the color will appear identical across all future materials.

What should I know before applying PMS 1797 U paint to plastics or low-surface-energy materials?

Plastics vary widely, and some low-surface-energy materials may not accept paint without proper preparation. PMS 1797 U can be matched in paint, but adhesion often depends on using the correct primer or surface treatment for the specific plastic. Always test the full system, including primer and topcoat, on the actual material before production to confirm adhesion, appearance, and durability.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 1797 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 1797 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 1797 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 1797 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 1797 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
