PMS 7696 C from the Pantone PMS collection is a subdued, slightly cool blue with a medium darkness level and understated character. The vibe is stable, corporate, dependable, grounded, and functional, reflecting its common role in visual identity and professional communication environments.

PMS 7696 C presents a medium darkness, with a light reflectance value (LRV) of 28.49. The color has a cool tendency, indicated by its blue hue angle and absence of warmth. PMS 7696 C shows moderate saturation; it is neither highly vivid nor overly muted. The undertone of this color is neutral to subtly steely, lacking green or purple shifts. This color is generally finish-stable, but like most muted blues, it may appear deeper and less saturated in matte finishes compared to gloss.

PMS 7696 C is used where a professional yet understated blue is needed for visibility without visual aggression. It performs reliably on signage, exhibit components, and branded environments, with stable appearance in both gloss and matte sheens. When specifying this color, carefully consider lighting—cool or neutral white lighting maintains its intended appearance, while warm lighting may dull its cool undertone. Relative to similar colors, PMS 7696 C reads more grounded, without the vividness or green bias present in other blues. Surface preparation should focus on uniform priming to ensure evenness, as medium-dark blues may show substrate variation if coverage is inconsistent.

Similar colors:
PMS 7697 C – A darker, deeper version with less visible brightness, suited for more somber displays.

PMS 7695 C – A more vivid and slightly warmer blue, appearing livelier and less muted.

PMS 7462 C – Similar in lightness but more chromatic, with a noticeable jump in intensity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7696 C

How does surface texture affect the appearance of PMS 7696 C?

The perceived color of PMS 7696 C can change depending on the surface texture. A glossy or smooth surface tends to reflect more light, making PMS 7696 C appear slightly lighter and more saturated. In contrast, matte and textured surfaces may absorb more light and cast small shadows, causing PMS 7696 C to look deeper and less saturated. It is important to account for these effects when specifying finishes to ensure consistent brand presentation across your project.

What is the best way to apply spray paint in PMS 7696 C for an even, professional result?

For the most consistent finish with PMS 7696 C spray paint, apply several light coats rather than one heavy coat. Allow each layer to become dry to the touch before applying the next coat. This helps achieve uniform coverage and color accuracy and minimizes the risk of runs or uneven texture. The exact drying time can vary based on conditions, but patience between coats will produce better results.

How consistent will PMS 7696 C be if I reorder paint at a later date?

For repeat orders of PMS 7696 C, you can expect close visual consistency if you use the same product type and sheen, and if you use the same color reference, such as a Pantone formula guide, for approval. Variation between batches can occur due to differences in materials or application, so always review a sample before full production. If brand consistency is critical, maintain the same approval process and document your original specifications.

How much surface area does one spray can of PMS 7696 C typically cover?

One spray can of PMS 7696 C usually covers about 20 to 25 square feet with a light, even coat. Actual coverage depends on the application method, surface texture, and the number of coats required for full, uniform color. Porous or uneven surfaces and highly saturated colors may need additional paint to achieve proper hide and brand accuracy. Estimate your needs accordingly and consider extra paint for test spraying and touch-up of minor installation defects, but PMS 7696 C is not intended for actual touch-up repair use.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 7696 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 7696 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Can I use the Pantone PMS 7696 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
