PMS 7589 C (Pantone PMS system) is a dark, muted brown with moderate chroma and subtle earthiness. This color is grounded, understated, and professional, often associated with visual stability. Its low reflectance value gives it a subdued and enveloping presence, supporting applications that require seriousness and a restrained, organic character.

PMS 7589 C is distinctly dark, with a low LRV of 7.07. The color maintains a warm base, trending towards an earthy brown. It displays medium-low saturation, resulting in a muted rather than vivid effect. Undertones lean towards a subtle ochre or clay, avoiding red or intensely yellow notes. Finish selection can noticeably influence how warmth and depth are perceived, especially in settings with variable lighting.

PMS 7589 C works well for applications needing visual stability, credential, or an organic sensibility without distraction. It is suited to branding scenarios where a natural or technical image is desired, and is frequently used for display elements that must minimize reflectance or “pop.” When specifying this color, evaluate under target lighting conditions, as its low lightness can deepen further in dim environments. The muted chroma helps minimize clashing with adjacent brights, but adjacent highly chromatic colors may make it appear duller by contrast. Test finish options for sheen, as higher gloss can elevate perceived warmth and lighter tones, while matte finishes reinforce subtlety and darkness.

PMS 7595 C offers a slightly lighter and more saturated brown character with increased warmth.

PMS 7588 C is somewhat darker and cooler, giving a more neutral, taupe-oriented impression.

PMS 153 C shifts warmer and more orange, providing greater chroma and energy by comparison.

PMS 161 C trends even deeper and less saturated, reading as a very dark, nearly neutral brown.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7589 C

How should I compare PMS 7589 C paint to my Pantone book?

The PMS 7589 C standard in a Pantone book is intended as a reference for visual color targets, not for specifying paint appearance on all materials. Actual PMS 7589 C paint color may appear different due to sheen, application method, and substrate. For best results, always sample PMS 7589 C paint on the intended material and finish, then compare this sample to your Pantone book under the same lighting conditions. Expect some visual variation, especially with changes in gloss or texture, and confirm acceptability with your team before committing to large-scale use.

Do I need a primer when using Pantone PMS 7589 C paint?

Whether primer is needed with PMS 7589 C paint depends on the substrate, paint type, and exposure. Porous, unpainted, or stained surfaces should always be primed to ensure proper adhesion and true color development. For metal, plastic, or high-gloss substrates, a suitable bonding primer is often recommended. Using primer can help PMS 7589 C display with maximum accuracy and durability, especially for brand-facing installations. Refer to substrate-specific primer guidance or consult a coatings professional for your project framework.

What should be considered when specifying PMS 7589 C for pop-ups or retail environments?

When using PMS 7589 C for pop-ups or retail settings, confirm durability meets your expected traffic and exposure. The muted, dark tone of PMS 7589 C can appear deeper in low light, so always evaluate samples under the actual conditions your brand experience will face. Sheen and substrate can impact both perception and wear. Before large-scale application, test samples on intended surfaces and review with stakeholders to ensure PMS 7589 C achieves your desired visual and brand outcome.

How does sheen choice affect Pantone PMS 7589 C paint, and how should I pick the right finish?

The finish you select for PMS 7589 C can alter its perceived depth and warmth. Glossy finishes may make PMS 7589 C appear slightly lighter and more vivid, enhancing warmth. Matte or flat sheens reinforce its muted, dark character and minimize reflectance, which can further deepen the appearance in lower light. Select sheen based on the intended viewing distance, lighting, and the role of the painted element within the brand experience. Test your choice on your actual substrate to confirm it aligns with your brand intent for PMS 7589 C.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 7589 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
