PMS 153 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (PMS), an industry-standard collection for consistent color specification in branding, marketing, and industrial design contexts. This color conveys an earthy, grounded vibe, with practical attributes such as visual warmth, boldness, and visual weight. The color's distinctiveness makes it effective for brand-differentiating elements and environmental graphics requiring memorable, saturated hues. It is frequently used to communicate approachability and authenticity in branded spaces.
PMS 153 C presents as a mid-dark color, with an LRV of 21.05 indicating low reflectance and significant visual weight. The color leans decidedly warm, with an orange-brown hue that suggests both earth and rust undertones. PMS 153 C maintains high chroma, appearing bold and saturated rather than muted or neutral. The undertone is consistently orange, reinforced by golden-brown nuances visible under most lighting conditions. The color may show increased depth and warmth under gloss or semi-gloss finishes, while matte finishes may mute its vibrancy.
PMS 153 C is selected when a strong, earthy color is required for brand or marketing environments, exhibit elements, or retail displays. It typically holds up well to direct lighting, though care should be taken as different sheens may enhance or mute its perceived saturation and depth. Preparation for paint application should emphasize achieving full, uniform coverage, as highly saturated colors like PMS 153 C may require additional coats to avoid uneven appearance relative to more neutral tones. In comparison to similar colors, PMS 153 C offers substantial warmth and chromatic intensity without veering into brighter, less grounded oranges.
Similar colors:
PMS 152 C – Slightly lighter and more orange, resulting in a more vibrant but less earthy appearance.
PMS 154 C – Darker and more muted, bringing more brown and less saturation than PMS 153 C.
PMS 471 C – Similar warmth but appears a bit redder and less orange, shifting more towards terracotta.

PMS 153 C is a highly saturated, earthy orange-brown that can be challenging to match consistently across different substrates and finishes. Factors like gloss level, application method, and material type can affect the perceived color and how closely it aligns to the Pantone standard. MyPerfectColor specializes in color-accurate paint for branding and display applications, but some variation should be expected compared to reference swatches, especially under varied lighting or when comparing different materials. When brand-critical accuracy is needed, especially for permanent installations or large-scale projects, testing a sample in the actual environment is recommended before full-scale use.
Because PMS 153 C is a bold and saturated orange-brown, it is important to apply multiple light coats of spray paint rather than a single heavy coat. Allow each coat enough time to dry before applying the next to achieve smooth, even coverage and maximize color consistency. This approach helps reduce the risk of dripping and uneven appearance, which can be more pronounced with deep, saturated colors like PMS 153 C. Full coverage is needed to achieve the intended brand color and finish.
Safety practices for paint products matched to PMS 153 C depend on the type of paint selected, such as spray paint, house paint, or other formats. It is important to review the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for the specific product, use adequate ventilation during application, and follow all label instructions for handling, storage, and personal protective equipment. VOC levels and other safety requirements vary by product, not by color, so always confirm the details for your chosen paint format before use.
The choice of paint type for PMS 153 C depends on whether the application is indoors or outdoors and the required durability. For most indoor brand environments, display elements, or prototypes, interior paint or specialty spray paint provides good results. For exterior applications or where exposure to weather is expected, select an exterior-rated paint formulated for durability and UV resistance. Verifying the paint''s suitability for your intended use will help maintain the intended PMS 153 C color and finish over time.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 153 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
