PMS 2346 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) color widely used in marketing, display fabrication, and brand-oriented industrial design contexts. This color displays a vivid, bold character with clear, declarative presence in physical environments. It projects an energetic, clean, visually assertive, and brand-centric vibe, typical for colors often specified for high-visibility branded components and installations.

PMS 2346 C has a mid-level lightness, with an LRV of 29.26, placing it in the darker range of vivid reds. The color leans slightly warm, informed by its low hue angle in the red spectrum. PMS 2346 C exhibits strong saturation and high chroma, presenting as highly vivid and intense. The undertone is direct and clean, without noticeable brown, orange, or blue shift. The color may exhibit sensitivity to finish, with higher sheen amplifying perceived brightness and depth.

PMS 2346 C is operationally effective for applications requiring brand-consistent reds with substantial visual weight. This color is well-suited for use where a vibrant, unmuddied, and pronounced red is specified—such as signage, exhibits, and marketing installations. Users should assess lighting conditions and finish, as both can noticeably affect vibrancy and perceived depth. Compared to similarly saturated reds, PMS 2346 C tends to be more chromatic and slightly warmer. Sufficient substrate preparation and possibly multiple coats are recommended to achieve full color uniformity, especially given the high saturation typical of this category.

Similar colors:
PMS 485 C is similar but appears slightly lighter and more orange, resulting in a warmer and less dense visual character.

PMS 186 C is another comparable red, showing a somewhat deeper and cooler tone.

PMS 200 C offers a more neutral red with lower chroma, resulting in a less vivid and more understated appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2346 C

How does using Pantone PMS 2346 C help create a consistent brand experience?

Pantone PMS 2346 C is a standardized color code that allows brands to specify an exact red across environments, displays, and marketing applications. By referencing PMS 2346 C, everyone involved in a project can reproduce the same vivid red, ensuring the brand looks consistent on signage, exhibits, and other physical installations. This approach helps maintain brand recognition and visual impact, regardless of vendor or material.

What are practical tips for maintaining a uniform appearance when applying PMS 2346 C over large areas?

For PMS 2346 C, start with proper substrate preparation to ensure smooth, clean surfaces. Apply a suitable primer if substrate color could interfere with the final result. Because PMS 2346 C is highly saturated, plan on multiple coats for full coverage and avoid skipping recommended dry times. Apply each coat evenly and maintain a consistent application method to minimize visible roller or spray patterns. Monitor lighting as visual uniformity can vary under different conditions.

How does surface texture affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 2346 C?

The texture of the substrate can change how PMS 2346 C looks. Smoother surfaces tend to produce a cleaner, brighter, and more vivid result, while rough or uneven textures can make the color appear darker, less uniform, or less saturated due to shadowing and diffuse reflections. For projects where brand consistency is critical, it is important to evaluate samples on the actual surface and finish that will be used before committing to full production.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2346 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
