PMS 2197 C, from the Pantone PMS collection, is a standard system reference color used to maintain visual consistency across branding, marketing, and product design contexts. This color projects a vibe that is clean, modern, stable, approachable, and technical. Its appearance on physical products and displays is intended to remain consistent across various production methods and materials, as dictated by the Pantone Matching System standard.

PMS 2197 C exhibits a moderate lightness, with an LRV of 55.57, placing it at a balanced midpoint between dark and light.

The color has a cool visual tendency, indicated by a hue angle in the blue range.

It appears moderately saturated, offering a clear and noticeable color presence without being overly vivid.

PMS 2197 C shows understated blue undertones, contributing to its professional and reliable appearance.

The color’s visibility and saturation can shift depending on surface finish, with higher-gloss finishes typically intensifying its appearance.

PMS 2197 C functions well in environments where a clear, branded blue is required to stand out but remain visually accessible. It performs reliably in both direct and indirect lighting situations; however, the perceived brightness and subtlety of the blue may change under warm- or cool-toned artificial lights. Test samples in the intended finish and lighting conditions before final production runs. Relative to similar blues, PMS 2197 C maintains a cooler, balanced character without veering into extremely deep or muted tones.

  • PMS 2185 C – Slightly lighter and more chromatic, appearing a touch more vivid than PMS 2197 C.
  • PMS 2176 C – Noticeably darker, adding a deeper blue effect.
  • PMS 2718 C – Cooler and a bit more vibrant, reading as a more pronounced blue with increased saturation.
  • PMS 2145 C – Warmer than PMS 2197 C, with a subtle shift toward teal.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2197 C

How should I use Pantone PMS 2197 C in a pop-up or retail environment to ensure brand consistency?

For installations using PMS 2197 C in pop-ups and retail settings, always test samples of the paint in the actual environment and lighting where it will be viewed. Lighting can significantly affect how PMS 2197 C appears, so evaluate color under both direct and ambient light found in your space. Plan for finish selection as higher gloss can intensify color and increase visibility. For high-traffic or hands-on areas, assess durability needs and select a compatible topcoat if additional protection is required. Review the final color in the intended location before full production to ensure it aligns with your brand standards and delivers consistent results across all displays and components.

What should I know about achieving good coverage when using Pantone PMS 2197 C?

PMS 2197 C is a moderately saturated blue and may require extra planning for coverage, especially over contrasting or dark substrates. Using an appropriate undercoat, such as a white or light gray primer, can improve color uniformity and reduce the number of coats needed. For large areas or highly visible elements, apply samples first to assess how many coats achieve solid, even color. Planning for at least two coats is common for brand-bright shades like PMS 2197 C. Always test in your specific application setup before committing to a large order.

What level of durability can I expect from spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 2197 C?

The durability of spray paint made to match PMS 2197 C depends on the type of paint selected, surface preparation, and the environment where it will be used. For best results, surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned and properly primed before painting. If the installation will be exposed to frequent touching or cleaning, or located in a high-traffic area, consider using a protective clear topcoat to help preserve the finish. Choose the paint formulation that aligns with your exposure needs, such as interior versus exterior, and always test in your specific use case to confirm that the durability meets your project requirements.

Is Pantone PMS 2197 C suitable for touch-up or repair applications?

PMS 2197 C is intended for achieving consistent brand color on new displays, signage, or marketing installations, not for touch-up or repair. If you require a very precise match for an existing item, especially if the surface has aged or has a unique finish, send a physical part to be matched instead of ordering by Pantone code. This ensures the closest possible match for restoration situations. For brand reproduction and new fabrication, using the Pantone PMS 2197 C reference is appropriate.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 2197 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 2197 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 2197 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 2197 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
