PMS 2119 C belongs to the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection, which is widely used for precise brand color specification across multiple materials and production processes. The color exhibits a rich, striking, and technical character, with an assertive and modern vibe. Its deep violet tone provides a bold statement, well-suited for applications seeking visual distinctiveness and intense chromatic presence.

PMS 2119 C appears very dark, with low light reflectance (LRV: 3.35). The color has a clear cool tendency, rooted in its violet hue. PMS 2119 C is strongly saturated, contributing to its vivid and impactful appearance. The undertone is distinctly purple with blue-violet influence, lacking visible warmth. The color's deep chroma and darkness may result in pronounced finish sensitivity, appearing more muted in matte and glossier in satin or gloss finishes.

PMS 2119 C works well where high visual intensity and a modern, unmistakable violet are required, particularly in branded environments, signage, or display fabrication requiring color consistency with Pantone standards. Users should be aware that the low LRV results in limited light reflectance; under subdued lighting, the color can appear almost black, while strong lighting accentuates its chromatic character. Highly saturated, dark shades like this may require careful surface preparation and multiple coats to achieve uniform coverage and avoid streaking. Finish selection strongly influences perceived brightness and richness; glossier sheens tend to amplify its vibrancy, while matte finishes may soften the color's impact.

Similar colors:
PMS 268 C: Also a saturated violet, but appears slightly lighter and somewhat warmer, with more red in its undertone.

PMS 2617 C: A similar dark purple that is somewhat less chromatic, resulting in a more neutral and understated effect.

PMS 2768 C: Shares the depth but shifts cooler and bluer, appearing closer to a deep indigo than violet.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2119 C

How closely will paint matched to PMS 2119 C look compared to the Pantone book standard?

Pantone books present PMS 2119 C as a reference standard under specific lighting and on coated paper. When ordering paint matched to PMS 2119 C, expect visible differences depending on sheen, surface type, and lighting. Paint will often appear glossier or more muted than the swatch, especially for this deep, saturated violet. Always sample the color on your actual material and with your chosen finish to ensure it meets your brand expectations before full production.

What should I consider when using PMS 2119 C paint on metal or powder-coated surfaces?

For PMS 2119 C on metal or powder-coated parts, proper surface preparation is crucial to achieving uniform color and finish. Clean and lightly scuff the surface before application to help paint adhere well. Be aware that existing coatings, gloss, or texture may alter how this saturated violet appears. Test PMS 2119 C on your actual surface using your intended finish before final production, as coverage and appearance may vary with sheen and substrate.

Why is it important to confirm the correct code or suffix when ordering PMS 2119 C paint?

Pantone PMS codes, such as PMS 2119 C, may use suffixes (like the C for coated) that identify specific standards. Ordering the wrong code or suffix can result in color or finish differences that do not align with your brand requirements. Always confirm the exact Pantone code and suffix from your brand guidelines or specifications before ordering paint to maximize visual accuracy and compliance with branding standards.

How should I choose the right paint type for PMS 2119 C for interior or exterior projects?

To achieve the best results with PMS 2119 C, select your paint type based on where and how the finished product will be used. For protected indoor environments, an interior-grade paint is appropriate. For exterior installations or places exposed to sunlight and weather, use an exterior-rated paint for better durability and color retention. Always match the paint chemistry to your project requirements before ordering PMS 2119 C.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 2119 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 2119 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 2119 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
