PMS 2114 C is part of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection, which standardizes color identification for consistent reproduction across print, paint, and manufactured goods. The color has a relatively low light reflectance value (LRV 28.04), with a moderately high saturation and a cool undertone. It presents as a pronounced, dark violet with a technical, attention-grabbing, and assertive visual character.

PMS 2114 C presents as a deep, medium-dark violet. The color has a distinctly cool bias resulting from its position in the purple/violet family. Saturation is moderately high, yielding a clear, chromatic appearance rather than a muted or grayened tone. The undertone leans toward blue, supporting a cooler, more technical impression. Paint finish and lighting can noticeably alter how the vibrancy and depth appear, with gloss finishes intensifying its saturation and matte finishes muting it slightly. The LRV of 28.04 provides moderate light reflectance—neither extremely bright nor very dark.

PMS 2114 C works effectively in environments where a distinct, memorable color is needed to convey a strong presence or brand identity, such as in retail displays, event installations, or branded spaces. For best results, evaluate the color in the intended lighting and finish, as both can shift the perceived vibrancy and darkness. When compared to other similar colors, PMS 2114 C retains a cooler and more saturated violet profile, showing less warmth or subtlety than adjacent purples. For uniform coverage, especially on lighter substrates, multiple coats may be necessary given its chromatic depth.

Similar colors:
PMS 2105 C: A lighter and less saturated violet, appearing softer and less pronounced.

PMS 2115 C: Slightly deeper and more muted, presenting a darker, less vibrant hue.

PMS 268 C: A more chromatic and distinctly bluer violet, cooler than PMS 2114 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2114 C

How should I order paint for PMS 2114 C to avoid mix-ups between the color name and code?

To ensure you receive the exact match for PMS 2114 C, always specify both the Pantone code and suffix, such as ''PMS 2114 C''. Pantone names often refer to entire color families, but it is the specific code and any suffix like ''C'' (for coated) that identify the precise color target. Relying on the code minimizes risk of ordering the wrong shade, especially when strict brand standards are involved.

What basic surface preparation steps should I take before applying Pantone PMS 2114 C paint?

For best results with PMS 2114 C, begin by cleaning the surface to remove dust, oils, and residues. Degrease if needed, then lightly scuff glossy or slick areas to improve paint adhesion. Make sure the surface is fully dry before painting. Always test PMS 2114 C on a small area first to confirm appearance and adhesion before proceeding with the final application.

Why might PMS 2114 C appear different when applied to different materials?

Pantone PMS 2114 C can look noticeably different across materials due to differences in substrate absorption, texture, and reflectivity. For example, color can appear deeper or less vibrant on porous or matte surfaces, while glossier materials may enhance its saturation. To ensure the final result aligns with your expectations, always review a sample of PMS 2114 C on the actual material you plan to use before proceeding with large-scale work.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2114 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
