Pantone™ PMS 8100 C

PMS 8100 C is a Pantone color reference intended for consistent visual brand communication, not as a formula for touch-up or repair. Pantone standards do not define the original product's sheen, substrate, or coating process, which are critical for a seamless touch-up. Even if a new paint is matched to PMS 8100 C, differences in gloss, base material, or environmental exposure mean that the finish may not blend with an existing surface. For best results, use PMS 8100 C to specify new, brand-facing components rather than for updating previously coated parts.

When using PMS 8100 C on metal or powder-coated surfaces, proper surface preparation is important for color consistency and adhesion. Ensure the part is cleaned and lightly scuffed so that the new coating bonds well. The existing coating's gloss, color, and condition will affect the final appearance, especially with a metallic shade like PMS 8100 C. Metallic finishes are particularly sensitive to application variables and lighting, so it is advisable to test on a sample part before proceeding with full production or installation.

Pantone colors like PMS 8100 C may appear with suffixes such as C, U, or M, indicating different print or material contexts. Always confirm the correct code and suffix with your brand standards or documentation to ensure you are referencing the precise color intent. Selecting the wrong suffix or series can result in color mismatch with your intended brand application, especially when consistency matters across multiple materials.

For PMS 8100 C, especially as a metallic, apply multiple thin coats rather than attempting to achieve full coverage in a single pass. Allow each coat to dry adequately before applying the next. This approach helps control build, reduces the chance of runs, and allows the metallic pigments to settle evenly for optimal appearance. Avoid heavy applications, as they can lead to uneven reflectance or color distortion.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
