PMS 8101 C is a metallic color in the Pantone PMS system, known for its bold magenta-pink appearance with a distinct shimmering effect. Its visual character is assertive, energetic, modern, reflective, and eye-catching, making it operationally relevant for branding materials, displays, and environments demanding high color visibility coupled with a metallic finish. The PMS system's role is to standardize such character-driven colors for branding and fabrication contexts.

PMS 8101 C appears as a strong, medium-dark magenta-pink. The color is distinctly cool in temperature, with noticeable blue undertones. Saturation is high, producing an intense and vivid look, especially under direct lighting. Undertones lean toward a bluish rose, making the color feel highly contemporary compared to redder metallic pinks. LRV of 18.42 means PMS 8101 C is moderately dark and will absorb more light than it reflects. The metallic finish heightens its reflectivity and apparent brightness depending on viewing angle and light conditions; color appearance varies more by sheen than non-metallic hues.

PMS 8101 C works especially well for projects requiring a metallic magenta accent with high visual energy—commonly in promotional displays, branded signage, or temporary experiential installations. The metallic effect delivers additional visual distinctness compared to flat paints but introduces greater finish sensitivity: changes in lighting, surface texture, or paint application method can strongly affect its perceived brightness and shimmer. For consistent results across substrates, careful evaluation of large-scale samples and attention to uniform surface preparation are recommended for this color. Among metallic fuchsias, PMS 8101 C generally maintains stronger blue undertones and a deeper value than comparable options.

Similar colors:
PMS 8100 C – Similar in metallic finish but presents as a slightly lighter, less saturated magenta.

PMS 8102 C – Offers a metallic pink that is warmer and more coral than PMS 8101 C.

PMS 226 C – A non-metallic magenta that is more chromatic and less reflective than PMS 8101 C.

PMS 219 C – A standard magenta with a lighter value and neutral undertone, but without the metallic effect.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 8101 C

How is Pantone PMS 8101 C used to create consistent brand experiences?

Pantone PMS 8101 C acts as a standardized reference for achieving brand consistency across marketing materials, displays, and branded environments. By specifying PMS 8101 C in brand standards, designers and fabricators create a recognizable visual identity regardless of where or how the color is reproduced. Using the Pantone PMS code helps align the visual appearance of PMS 8101 C across different substrates and vendors, supporting a cohesive brand experience for clients and audiences.

How should I use samples of PMS 8101 C in a brand approval workflow?

Before committing to large scale production with PMS 8101 C, order a physical sample in the intended paint format and apply it to the real substrate. Evaluate the sample under installed lighting conditions, as metallic finishes like PMS 8101 C can vary depending on angle and surface. Confirming appearance with a sample helps ensure the final result meets brand requirements and avoids surprises in color or finish.

What is the difference between the Pantone color name and code when ordering PMS 8101 C?

The code 'PMS 8101 C' identifies an exact color target in the Pantone Matching System. Always use the complete code, including suffixes such as 'C' for coated, to avoid ordering the wrong color. The color name (such as metallic magenta pink) is descriptive, but only the code ensures the specific reference required for accurate brand reproduction.

What should I consider about hide and undercoats when using PMS 8101 C?

PMS 8101 C is a bold, saturated metallic color that may require multiple coats to achieve full coverage, especially over contrasting surfaces. For best results, use a suitable undercoat that is close in color or recommend by the paint supplier to improve uniformity and reduce the number of topcoats needed. Planning for additional coats helps achieve a consistent, brand-correct appearance.

Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 8101 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
