Pantone™ PMS 8140 C

To achieve visually consistent results with PMS 8140 C across multiple orders, use the same product type, sheen, and application method every time. Always reference the same Pantone PMS 8140 C standard for approvals. Because PMS 8140 C is a highly saturated metallic, even small changes in product, surface prep, or finish can noticeably shift the appearance, especially under varying lighting. For critical projects or repeat work, keep a retained control sample from your first batch and have future runs compared against it under your typical project lighting.

The best paint type for PMS 8140 C depends on where and how it will be used. For exterior or outdoor brand displays, select a paint formula rated for exterior durability and weather resistance. For interior applications such as event props or branded environments, interior-only paint is suitable and may offer more finish options. If you need PMS 8140 C for both settings, specify your intended use so you receive the right formula for your project's exposure and performance needs.

PMS 8140 C is a Pantone PMS standard and does not have exact equivalents in other paint brand collections. Pantone colors, especially vivid metallic shades like PMS 8140 C, are unique and may not align with other systems. Attempting to cross-reference can result in noticeable color differences and should be avoided if visual brand consistency is critical. Use a direct Pantone match when PMS 8140 C is specified as the standard.

PMS 8140 C is a deep, metallic color that benefits from several light, even spray coats rather than a heavy application. Allow time for each coat to set before recoating. This technique builds color saturation, helps prevent runs or streaks, and improves the overall uniformity of the metallic effect. Using patience with multiple light coats is especially important with PMS 8140 C to achieve a smooth, visually consistent brand appearance.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
